TITLE: School Parent Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 48 college hours or passing score on Para Pro Test
- Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Bilingual with proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing
- Experience in understanding the needs of diverse populations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Flexibility with respect to work hours in order to meet the needs of parents, including early mornings, evenings and weekends
REPORTS TO: Building administrator(s)
JOB GOAL: The Parent Coordinator works with the school principal and school staff to engage parents in the school community. The coordinator collaborates with the school principal and staff to build and maintain partnerships between teachers, parents, students and community members.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Acts as a liaison between families and the school staff (including social workers):
- Translates parent oral and written communications
- Makes phone calls to parents
- Makes home visits when necessary
- Communicates with teachers and staff about student and family needs/concerns
- Schedules translators for parent-teacher conferences
- In close collaboration with the principal, aids in the organization of multiple annual events to engage parents for example:
- Open Houses or Back to School Picnics
- Math and Reading nights
- Information Workshops that are of relevance to parent needs (homework help, state assessment information, gang information, using and accessing various programs in the district, community services etc)
- Parent classroom visits
- Lunch at school
- Monthly recognition assemblies
- Collaborates with community agencies to maximize resources for students and families.
- In conjunction with the principal and school staff, annually reviews and revises the School Parent Engagements Policy and School Compact.
- In collaboration with the principal and school staff, conducts parent surveys to establish annual parent engagement goals for the school.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the school principals.
