SUMMARY
Functions as an entry-level technician who is able to perform oil changes and other vehicle maintenance and light repair.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Essential duties include the following. Other duties relative to the operations, upkeep and/or maintenance of the service center may be assigned.
- Performs work specified on maintenance and repair orders with efficiency and in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
- Inspects fluid levels of steering gear, power steering reservoir, transmission, differential, and rear axle housings.
- Checks air pressure of tires.
- Drains and refills oil and replaces oil filters.
- Inspects vehicles for additional repairs needed.
- Performs tire rotations, installations, and balancing on all makes and models.
- Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
- Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
- Road tests vehicles when required.
- Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
- Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
- Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
- Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor
- Keeps customer cars clean and notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
- Understands and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA, etc.
- Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
- Reports any safety issues immediately to management.
- Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events
- Keeps shop area neat and clean.
- Maintains and is accountable for all dealership owned tools and manuals.
- Follows all other instruction and requests of manager/supervisor.
Qualifications
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Tools required to perform repairs and services.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Must be able to speak effectively.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to use a computer for reference and training/testing.
EDUCATION
Education, training and/or state/national certifications should clearly demonstrate the possession of the knowledge and skills stated above.
- High School degree or equivalent preferred
- Valid Drivers license that meets dealership insurability requirements
- Trade or Vocational School certification
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 2 years experience in automotive repair or service as a lube tech
- ASE certifications a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Walking/Standing for 6 to 8 hours in a shift
- Using hand and/or power tools and equipment consistent with industry standards
- Bending, stretching, lifting, reaching and climbing
- Lifting up to 70lbs.
- Possess physical and manual dexterity
