Job Summary
The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Accountant II within the Finance Department. This full-time position performs advanced accounting duties in support of county financial operations.
Major Job Duties
- Manages and oversees capital project budgets.
- Creates and maintains spreadsheets or other reports to show capital revenue and expenditure.
- Sets up and tracks capital items within a fixed asset system; coordinates annual inventory by department.
- Issues purchase orders for submitting departments; to including verifying budget allocations and necessary vendor information; orders supplies for the department.
- Assists with monthly and year-end closing functions; including general ledger work; accounting reconciliation; month-end reporting; and other ad hoc reporting.
- Monitors; tracks; and reports on grants.
- Prepares audit schedules for fixed assets; capital projects; and grants.
- Updates financial statements on the SPLOST and Finance Department pages of the county website.
- Provides support for payroll and accounts receivable functions as required.
- Performs related duties.
Knowledge & Skills Required
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines.
- Knowledge of accounts payable and receivable policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of payroll policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of budget management principles.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in managing and prioritizing multiple projects.
- Skill in preparing reports and communicating information clearly and effectively.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a course of study related to the occupational field
- More than three (3) years of related experience required.
Physical Demands
The work is typically performed in an office while intermittently sitting; standing; or stooping at a desk or table. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
Salary & Benefits
This is a full-time position with a starting annual compensation of $51,397 (pay grade 17A). Work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday working in the Courthouse Annex in downtown Hinesville, Georgia.
