What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Inspector (open until filled) position at Liberty County Board of Commissioners?
- Inspects construction of single family, multi-family, commercial buildings, and any other construction requiring permittation for compliance with current building, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and safety codes.
- Inspects the installation of Mobile Homes with current Mobile Home installation standards.
- Conducts and investigates zoning, building, and local ordinance complaints and participates in violation hearings if necessary.
- Inspects commercial sites for BMP’s and conducts follow-up inspections for violations.
- Assists with disaster preparedness plans, member of damage assessment team, and conducts inspection of storm damaged homes and buildings.
- Performs onsite inspection of potential unsafe buildings and structures.
- Reviews building plans as needed.
- Performs related duties.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, zoning, land use and building inspection.
- Knowledge of International Code and International Residential Codes.
- Knowledge of the geography of the county.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Knowledge of county policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of County Ordinances and Municipal Ordinances for construction and code enforcement.
- Skill in reading and understanding building plans, site plans, and other technical diagrams.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in interpersonal relations.
- The work is typically performed while typically standing or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light objects and distinguishes between shades of color.
- The work is typically performed in an office or outdoors and occasionally in cold or inclement weather.
- Associates degree in a related course of study is preferred.
- More than two (2) years of related experience required.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) Erosion and Sediment Control Level 1B Certification within six months.
- International Code Council (ICC) certifications in Residential Inspection, Commercial Inspection, and Plan Examiner are preferred.
- Possession of a valid Georgia Class C driver’s license.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
This is a full-time position with an annual compensation of $48,921.16 (Pay Grade 16). Work hours are typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday working in the Courthouse Annex in downtown Hinesville Georgia.
