Job Summary
Liberty County Board of Commissioners is seeking Certified Firefighters to work within Liberty County Fire Services. This is a part-time, on-call position paid $15.99 per hour.
This position is responsible for responding to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous materials, urban rescue, and other calls to protect life and property; to participate in fire prevention and training; and to maintain the fire station, equipment, and vehicles.
Major Job Duties
- Responds to calls for emergency and non-emergency services.
- Performs firefighting work to include preventing, combating, and extinguishing fires; rescue fire and accident victims; provides emergency medical care; and identifies hazardous materials incidents.
- Trains and continues education for firefighting, emergency medical services, vehicle accident response, driver’s training, hazardous materials, and numerous other job-related areas.
- Maintains and checks equipment and apparatus to be in a constant state of readiness to respond to emergency and non-emergency calls.
- Provides fire prevention information to the public for fire and life safety education.
- Enters information into the computer programs for call reporting; inventory of equipment; information sharing and communication.
- Performs housekeeping; building maintenance; and ground keeping duties.
- Tests and maintains equipment to ensure proper function and readiness to include fire hose, ladders, fire pumps on apparatus, fire hydrants, and medical equipment.
- Drives department vehicles including passenger vehicles and fire apparatus in emergency and non- emergency modes in response to calls for service, normal work requirements, and training.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education Required
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association and the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Act.
Minimum Qualifications
- Less than one (1) year of related experience
- Valid Georgia driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Georgia Firefighter 1 (or higher) certification
- Emergency Medical Responder certification
Physical Requirements
- Intermittently sitting; standing; walking; bending; crouching; or stooping
- Frequently lifts light and occasionally lifts heavy objects; climbs ladders; uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity; and distinguishes between shades of color.
- Work environment consists of an office; in a very noisy place; or outdoors occasionally in cold or inclement weather.
- The employee is exposed to dust; dirt; grease; machinery with moving parts; and contagious or infectious diseases; or irritating chemicals.
- Work requires use of protective devices such as masks; goggles; breathing apparatus; and gloves.
