DIETARY COORDINATOR
Full Time, Days
Job Summary:
- Collaborates with the facility administrator to coordinate all Dietary Services in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and Facility policies and procedures.
- Coordinates food service to assure patients receive nutritious, attractively, served diets as ordered by their attending physician in accordance with approved corporate menu cycle.
- Attends MDS conference on the day of admission to assess dietary needs. Completes Nutritional assessment – UDA and dietary section of MDS according to current policy and places dietary problems, goals, and approaches on Care Plan. Completes Dietary MDS questions for 5 day,14 day, 30 day and 60 day review period as scheduled.
- Attends (or assigns designee to attend) Patient Care Planning Conferences and participates in Interdisciplinary Care Plan Conferences.
- Completes Quarterly Reviews and Annual Update of the Nutritional Assessment – UDA and the dietary section of the MDS as scheduled.
- Visits patients upon admission and on a scheduled basis to discuss dietary needs, likes and dislikes, food preferences and to assess dietary needs. Documents information obtained.
- Documents dietary information in patient’s medical record per Facility policies and local, state, and federal regulations.
- Prepares for Senior Nutrition Services Coordinator’s visit; completes and compiles required information.
- Prepares and/or monitors the work schedule for dietary services staff. Assures adequate personnel are on duty for each shift.
- Prepares and/or monitors payroll reports, absentee slips, overtime sheets, etc. and sends to Business Office as directed by Administrator.
- Prepares and/or monitors the work schedules to include vacation and/or holidays due to the dietary services employees. Sends holiday vacation sheets to Business Office at the end of each pay period.
- Assists the administrator in the completion of evaluations for dietary services employees in a timely manner.
- Assures open communication between self, dietary supervisors, dietary staff, and between other department staff.
- Meets with staff on a weekly basis to discuss area needs and possible solutions as well as to receive suggestions on matters pertaining to department operations.
- Reviews dietary policies and procedures periodically and makes recommendations for changes/additions as necessary to Senior Nutrition Services Coordinator and Administrator.
- Implements Infection Control policies and procedures of Facility. Serves on Infection Control Committee. Adheres to Infection Control regulations and assures standards are maintained by Dietary Services Department.
- Serves on Quality Assessment and Assurance Committee. Participates in Quality Assurance Program. Performs and/or assigns monitors to assure quality service.
- Serves on Safety Committee and adheres to safety practices of Facility. Monitors dietary services staff for adherence to safety practices.
- Notifies Administrator of staffing needs in Dietary Services Department.
- Takes part in interviews for department staff and makes recommendations to Administrator for hiring.
- Monitors the orientation and training of dietary services employees per Facility policy.
- Maintains employee records regarding requested shifts, assignments and seniority.
- Assists in maintaining and updating job descriptions for Dietary Services Department as needed.
- Reports disciplinary problems involving dietary services personnel as needed following established procedures to the administrator.
- Ensures availability of supplies and equipment. Assesses need for additional equipment or repair and maintenance of current equipment. Assures maintenance per manufacturer’s recommendation per established schedule.
- Recommends and/or conducts specific areas of in-service or continuing education for the department as required.
- Assures timely completion of online education requirements for self and all Dietary Staff.
- Assists with monitoring and/or research related to the quality of dietary services.
- Works directly with other departments to implement needs of patients in the Facility.
- Participates in Department Directors meetings, noting concerns, suggestions for improvement, etc. from Dietary Services Department.
- Assures adequate food supplies by ordering, purchasing and stocking ample supplies per Facility policies and practices.
- Completes daily spend down report, on a timely basis to maintain budget compliance.
- Monitors dietary equipment to assure cleaning and/or maintenance.
- Assumes any position in department to assure coverage.
- Submits documentation for quarterly Dietary Service Department recognition awards as eligible.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age, or older, and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be a certified dietary manager or enrolled in a Dietary Manager Training program which has been approved by the Dietary Managers Association and/or awaiting to take the National Certification exam.
- Must purchase and wear required uniform.
- Must cooperate with other Facility leaders and the ability to coordinate plans and organization for the Dietary Department.
- Must be knowledgeable of cost accounting, record keeping, budget planning, menu planning, diet therapy, and purchasing procedures, as well as dietary management and serve on related committees as needed.
- Plans and participates in inservice and staff meetings for Dietary Department.
- Demonstrates neat appearance and good personal hygiene.
- Complies with DMA Code of Ethics and Standards of Performance.
- Is HIPAA compliant; maintains confidentiality and assures resident rights.
- Must read, know and follow personnel, department and Facility policies.
