Position Overview:
Reporting to the Director, Grantmaking and Capacity Building and collaborating closely with the Senior Director of Youth and Transformative Justice, the Program Manager will play a pivotal role in advancing Liberty Hil's Youth Justice Initiatives. In the first twelve months, this role will work on a new initiative with the Los Angeles County Department of Youth Development (DYD) to establish the Youth Development Incubation Academy.
The Program Manager will be responsible for coordinating grantmaking and capacity building activities and liaising with Los Angeles County DYD to ensure successful implementation. Liberty Hill will provide capacity building programming and grants to Community Based Organizations (CBO) who are identified by stakeholders. The program will provide training, capacity building and technical assistance to CBOs. Your ability to manage resources, timelines, and stakeholders will be key to your success in this dynamic and collaborative environment.
What you will do:
Program and Project Management
- Oversee the successful implementation of the program using project management techniques to ensure progress is within budget, scope, and timeline.
- Collaborate across the matrix management structure to ensure seamless communication and cooperation between programs.
- Adapt to shifting priorities and reallocate resources as needed to meet program goals.
- Assist with the development and execution of project budgets, ensuring alignment with overall program objectives.
- Manage the logistics for virtual and in-person events, including Community Assemblies, stakeholder meetings, and training sessions.
- Develop training curricula and lead workshops for diverse audiences, focusing on capacity building and grassroots organizing.
Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination
- Serve as a primary point of contact for public sector agencies, funders, consultants, policymakers, and community partners.
- Coordinate and facilitate meetings, ensuring agendas are clear, outcomes are documented, and action items are tracked.
- Build and maintain relationships with key ally organizations to strengthen movement capacity and secure endorsements for key initiatives.
Research and Administrative Support
- Conduct policy research and stay informed about the evolving landscape of environmental justice and climate equity.
- Assist in foundation prospecting, grant writing, and reporting to secure funding and demonstrate impact.
- Inform communications and advancement teams about program activities and collaborate on messaging strategies.
- Provide administrative support, including processing financial reimbursements, tracking invoices, and managing reports.
- Contribute to the development of curriculum design teams, ensuring the creation of effective learning modules on climate themes.
Requirements
What you will have:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience, with a preference for personal lived/professional experience.
- 3 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit or government.
- 2 years of capacity building and grantmaking experience with small community-based organizations.
- 2 years of successfully executing high-visibility projects on time and on budget.
- 2 years working effectively with diverse and broad-based community constituencies.
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment that requires continual updating and engagement of multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Office 365 (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Ability to navigate and learn various software; specifically, Slack, Asana, and SharePoint.
- Attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Commitment to social and racial justice, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Physical demands:
- Ability to operate a remote workstation and laptop/screen for extended periods.
- Ability to travel for in-person co-working, meetings, events and live in Los Angeles County.
