Mechanical Estimator
Mechanical Contractor - Mechanical Construction- Estimator – MEP - HVAC
Our client is an excellent large mechanical contractor in the Greater Maryland & Washington, DC Metro area and is actively seeking a to add a Mechanical Estimator to the group. This role will provide take-off and estimates for mechanical projects including ductwork, HVAC, piping and plumbing projects, hydronic systems & boilers in commercial and industrial settings
Job Description
- Provide quantity take-offs, analyses, estimates, and studies
- Review bid documents and RFP’s to determine the scope of work and prepare estimates
- Negotiate and work with suppliers for material cost & availability
- Able to communicate and interact with vendors, subcontractors and client
- Ability to read project diagrams, drawings and specifications
- Ability to meet deadlines for estimates/bids
- Maintain existing relationships and develop new ones with clients, equipment and material vendors and subcontractors
- Review invitations to bid and identify high potential opportunities
- Review plans, specification and all relevant documents to understand project requirements
- Submit RFI’s as needed to clarify a specific discrepancy or a potential problem
- Request pricing from subcontractors and venders
- Conduct research to obtain data on labor costs, materials, and production times
- Obtain, review, and compare quotes from venders and subcontractors.
- Negotiating price with the suppliers for the equipment & materials per the project budget
Qualifications
- Four (4) or more years of estimating experience in HVAC, Plumbing, Process Piping, or Mechanical systems estimating in a mechanical contracting company
- Able to read drawings and specification, compile an accurate take-off and summary
- Preparation of mechanical estimate scopes of work, calculating takeoff of scopes of work for HVAC, mechanical and piping systems
- Reviewed bid drawings, specifications, general conditions, and other relevant bid documents prior to materials take-off and cost estimate of mechanical projects for subcontract or prime bids
- Communicate with vendors, suppliers, and sub-contractor requirements for pricing, delivery dates, and product compliance within specifications
- Identifying possible cost saving opportunities
- Knowledge of HVAC equipment, materials and methods of installation
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical systems in Industrial, mechanical contracting, mechanical construction field
- Knowledgeable in the use of a computerized estimating program as well as proficiency in Windows/PC-based software
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, excellent team player
- Excellent communication skills
