Machinist Tool Maker

π Department: Wire Mill Machine Shop
π° Hourly Wage: $27.00-$35.00/hour OT opportunities
π Schedule: Full-time | Must be available for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts, weekends, and potential overtime

What You'll Do:

Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to plan and execute complex machining operations
β
Set up and operate both manual and CNC machines (lathes, mills, grinders, EDMs) to produce precision parts
β
Fabricate, repair, and maintain jigs, dies, fixtures, gauges, and machine components
β
Use metrology tools (micrometers, indicators, CMMs, optical comparators) to ensure tight tolerances and quality control
β
Repair worn or damaged tooling using welding, grinding, and re-machining techniques
β
Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to improve tooling design and reduce downtime
β
Program CNC machines using G-code and CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, etc.)
β
Perform heat treatment and material testing for tool hardening and optimization
β
Maintain tool room inventory and traceability of custom-fabricated components
β
Apply 5S and lean manufacturing practices to maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment
β
Mentor and support apprentice machinists and tool room trainees
β
Follow all safety protocols including PPE usage, machine guarding, and lockout/tagout procedures
What We're Looking For:
πΉ Experience: 5 years in tool making, precision machining, or mold/die fabrication in an industrial environment
πΉ Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or vocational training in machining/tool making preferred
πΉ Apprenticeship: Completion of a recognized machinist/tool maker apprenticeship strongly preferred
πΉ Skills:
β’ CNC & manual machining
β’ Blueprint reading and complex drawing interpretation
β’ G-code programming and CAM software use
β’ Use of metrology instruments and quality control techniques
β’ Familiarity with heat treating and various metals' machining properties
πΉ Mindset: Detail-oriented, quality-focused, and self-driven with strong problem-solving skills
