ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supporting Academic Success:
- Provide workshops and small group sessions on case briefing, class preparation, note-taking, legal writing and grammar, and other pertinent topics
- Provide individual counseling to students under academic probation or facing academic challenges
- Offer one-on-one and group assistance to students to assess and improve legal writing abilities
- Utilize feedback provided by faculty from first-year lawyering skills assignments to assist students with improving their legal writing skills
- Collaborate with faculty to identify areas where remediation is needed
- Create an effective and proactive program to assist students most in need
- Perform statistical reporting on student participation, attendance, outcomes, and related measures as directed
- Accessible to students during law school operational hours and as needed evenings and weekends
- Assist with planning and implementing 1L Orientation
- Monitor student performance and recommend new or additional learning interventions as needed
- Monitor and assist with implementation and compliance with disability laws applicable to Liberty University School of Law
- Identify issues that interfere with a student’s academic performance and refer them to resources as appropriate
- Assist with moot court, mock trial, or any other advocacy competition hosted at the law school
Supporting Bar Exam Success
- The Associate Director of Academic Success will collaborate with the Bar Exam Success Coordinator and the Director of Academic Success in all bar exam success efforts and initiatives year-round, some of which are highlighted below
- Oversee practice MBE tests at the beginning of 2L and 3L years
- Regularly assess the need to adjust material covered in various academic success and bar preparation courses as needed
- Secure study spaces for students and coordinate on-campus study spaces for bar takers
- Organize faculty prayer partners for students
- Organize state specific alumni mentors
- Monitor student progress on a daily basis during 10-week bar prep programs for July and February bar exam seasons
- Analyze student data to identify deficiencies in test taking skills, and engage in remedial action when necessary
- Organize and analyze the simulated Multistate Bar Exam (MBE)
- Guide students through the study process by sending weekly emails
- Tailor individualized study plans as needed

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience
- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school
- Law school advising, counseling, student services, teaching, and/or tutoring experience strongly preferred
- Minimum of one year of related experience with a law school academic success or bar preparation program in an administrative or teaching role is desirable
- Experience with assessment and data collection preferred
- Passage of a bar exam and admission to a state bar in the United States (can be inactive or retired status).
- Strong academic performance in law school preferred

Work Environment
The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled office setting. It is well lighted and the noise level is moderate.
Driving Requirements
Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
