Working independently and exercising excellent judgment and discretion, the principal roles of the Curriculum Library Manager are to oversee the hiring, scheduling, training, and monitoring of the Customer Service Assistant (CSA) and Customer Service Specialist II (CSSII) positions of the Curriculum Library; process and catalog curriculum materials; and serve customers in the Curriculum Library. The Curriculum Library Manager will create the schedule for the CSA and CSSII positions and continually encourage, model, train, and evaluate department staff in procedures and workflows, supervisory best practices, and excellent customer service. This entails disseminating information across the department, managing employee permissions, and maintaining software that consolidates department information, procedures, documents, and forms. This position creates and interprets the department’s productivity reports, delivering to the Curriculum Librarian suggestions for improved services as well as metrics for evaluating the effectiveness of space usage within the Curriculum Library. This position oversees the development of guidelines for excellent customer service and continually encourages, models, and teaches these standards. Additional roles include maintaining a neat and orderly environment conducive to work and study, ordering necessary supplies, placing items in the Curriculum collections on reserve for faculty, and performing all other duties assigned by the Curriculum Librarian in order to provide quality customer service and resources in the Curriculum Library.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

  • Interviews, hires, trains, schedules, and manages the CSSII and CSA positions of the Curriculum Library in the Jerry Falwell Library.
  • Reviews and approves student workers’ and staff’s timecards each pay period.
  • Assists in creating and scheduling training programs for the entire department on matters regarding technology, assessment practices, and space usage.
  • Orders, processes, catalogs, and maintains curriculum materials and supplies.
  • Employs excellent customer service skills to assist customers with accessing the resources in the Curriculum Library.
  • Works with the Curriculum Librarian to develop guidelines, standards, and workflows to ensure excellent customer service.
  • Intervenes in and addresses disciplinary situations; maintains a neat and orderly environment conducive to work and study by monitoring the seating area of the Curriculum Library.
  • Instructs and assists with Curriculum orientation for education students.
  • Formats reserve information into the circulation system as needed to support faculty.
  • Able to work in and with diverse populations.
  • Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services, and leading industry performance benchmarks.
  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Curriculum Library Manager is responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising ten Customer Service Assistants (work-study positions) as well as two Customer Service Specialist II (full-time staff) positions for the Curriculum Library’s >90 operational hours per week. Supervising duties entail encouraging and correcting behaviors through the completion of employee evaluations, Disciplinary Action Forms, and other corrective measures; moreover, this position requires astute professional judgment and discernment when managing employee records and sensitive information.

Qualifications, Credentials, And Competencies

Experience working a library, a college degree or degree in progress, and strong commitment to public service required. Supervisory experience and a major/background in Education or English, with focus on children's literature preferred. Effective communication both verbally and in writing. Ability to intuitively reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature. Excellent computer and organizational skills. Regularly lift 20 or fewer pounds, push 200 or fewer pounds, and reach all shelves. Often required to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends.
