The Campus Rec Assistant Director is responsible to provide and oversee effective operations for respective Campus Recreation administration, programs, and/or facilities. The Assistant Director may provide direction to full-time, part-time, and student workers by supervising tasks, monitoring performance, and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures. They are also responsible for maintaining safety and reducing risk.

The position directly oversees the equine related programming at the equestrian center and will have instructional duties including but not limited to lessons, trail rides, classes and practices. This position will also be responsible for the consideration/creation of special events along with implementation. The position will manage a team of full, part-time and student employees.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities
- Responsible for directly overseeing a team of full, part-time and student employees to facilitate operations and programming. This includes hiring, training, developing, scheduling and evaluating.
- Direct instruction of equine related activities including lessons, trail rides, classes and team practices.
- Oversight of recreational lesson program including scheduling and payments.
- Coordinate the development of competitions, special events, planning and logistics.
- Assist in the maintenance of the horse herd including riding, training, grooming and basic medical treatment.
- Open and/or close the barn according to opening and closing procedures.
- Assists in the maintenance and adherence of risk management procedures and policies, ensuring compliance with University policies.
- Document and report incidents and injuries during any activities at the equestrian center.
- Document, track, and report program statistics and objectives progress in the areas of equestrian center revenue, participation, and survey feedback.
- Make purchases and recommendations for departmental assets or expenses.
- Frequently oversee and assist with events or operations during evening, nights or weekend hours.
- Remain up to date on industry standards and performance benchmarks and ensure that all equine related programming remains effective and current.
- Perform all other tasks assigned by the Director to aid and assist the operation of Campus Recreation facilities.
- Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.

Qualifications And Credentials

Minimum Qualifications
- 5 years prior horse experience (ownership, stable employment and/or professional equine experience)
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Valid driver’s license
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid certifications
- Ability to ride, train and prepare horses for all levels of riders. Experience with collegiate riding, teaching lessons and competing in horse shows. Familiarity with industry standards and practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills, problem solving ability and attention to detail
- Masters Degree or progress toward an advanced degree
- Degree in Equine related field
- Experience leading a team
Communication and Comprehension
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information to other staff, students and visitors.
