What are the responsibilities and job description for the Locksmith Technician I position at Liberty University?
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reports to work at the required time and meets with the Lead Locksmith to receive instructions for the day.
- Will work alongside other members of the Locksmith Team to receive training.
- Must receive safety training for use in tools, ladders, chemicals, asbestos awareness, and PPE standards.
- Must become a registered driver for the University.
- Must familiarize themselves with safety/security protocols instituted by the University.
- Must receive training in how Key Requests are handled.
- Must receive training in pinning cores.
- Must receive training in cutting keys.
- Must receive training in how to use the University’s Key Control computer program.
- Must receive training in how to recognize malfunctions in cores and keys, as well as locksets and other door hardware.
- Must learn how to properly educate other departments in Access Control’s policies and procedures.
- Must learn how to properly educate other departments in the proper use of keys and hardware.
- Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required. Certifications obtained while employed by Liberty University at the expense of the employer will be reimbursed back to the University upon voluntary termination (resignation) for the first 12 months after acquiring it.

Physical and Sensory Abilities
- Regularly required to travel to and from off campus locations.
- Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
- Required to be able to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move around campus for extended periods.
- Required to be able to use and climb ladders.
- Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and perform duties of the Access Control trade. Indoor and outdoor in typical Virginia Climate.
- Must be able to work on weekends, holidays, and flexible daily hours as well as various evening hours when needed.
- Ability to use the telephone and computer to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions. Must be able to stand for long periods.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment
The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled and/or construction space setting. It is well lighted and the noise level is moderate.
Driving Requirements
Use of a Liberty University vehicle is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, and an acceptable DMV record, is required.
Salary : $27,600 - $35,000
