Seeking a Lead Veterinary Technician to join our team! Our AAHA accredited small animal veterinary hospital is looking for a professional, self-motivated, responsible candidate who is interested in providing high quality medical care to our community's pets. The Lead Veterinary Technician trains, supervises and assists technicians to plan, coordinate and perform a variety of duties concerned with animal health and client education. This position also encompasses all the duties of the veterinary technician. Must be compassionate, cheerful, possess strong leadership, communication and motivational skills, have a good work ethic and be a team player. The Lead Veterinary Technician must demonstrate the ability to build professional relationships with staff members and maintain compassionate care with patients. Must be reliable and dependable. Requirements: Certification/licensure is preferred. Must have 3 years previous experience working in a general practice as a Veterinary Technician/Nurse, and a minimum of 1 year of leadership role experience is required.
Summarized list of the duties and responsibilities for this role:
- Perform all duties of a Veterinary Technician.
- Lead, supervise and mentor a team of Veterinary Technicians/Nurses and Assistants while assuring that hospital policies, protocols and Standards of Care are followed throughout the daily operations in the hospital.
- Delegates responsibilities to Veterinary Technicians and Assistants to ensure efficient use of scheduled staff at all times.
- Ability to act with accuracy and urgency, works well under pressure, requires minimal direction and obtains strong multitasking and detail orientation skills.
- Maintain exemplary knowledge of products, hospital services, medications, preventative health care recommendations and dietary products. Demonstrate the ability to explain and educate clients & support staff members on products and answer their questions regarding product usage.
- Oversees daily treatments and monitoring of hospitalized patients in accordance with hospital policy.
- Works collaboratively with all staff in organizing the medical team. Ensures quality patient care and staff productivity is practiced, while maintaining a smooth flow of hospital operations.
- Oversees daily surgery procedures and ensures that all surgery instruments and supplies are efficiently and properly cleaned and sterilized in a timely manner.
- Oversees controlled drug log books and ensures medical supplies, products and medications are adequately stocked.
- Train staff using safe restraint and animal handling techniques.
- Assist Practice Manager with developing training programs and provide direct training to new technical staff. Provides feedback for performance and disciplinary actions. Assists in helping address employee performance issues, animal needs or issues, maintenance or supply needs, workload concerns etc and developing performance improvement plans for staff.
- Maintains and oversees equipment maintenance and provides regular communication and input to the Practice Manager with maintenance issues, both in hospital and property.
- Uses critical thinking approaches to problems to develop solutions.
- Assists Practice Manager with OSHA and inventory control.

Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
