Job Title: Interim Dean of Faculty 2025-26 School Year

Reports to: Head of School

Status: Full Time; Exempt

Direct Reports: Department Chairs & Faculty, Dean of College Counseling

This is an interim position for the 202526 school year. Although the role is currently set for one year, a formal search will be conducted to fill the position permanently. The individual serving in the interim role will be considered as a candidate should they express interest.

Position Summary:

The Dean of Faculty is responsible for fostering faculty well-being, professional development, and instructional growth across all departments. This role encompasses hiring, supervising, evaluating, and retaining faculty while actively supporting their professional growth. Working closely with the Head of School, the Dean of Teaching and Learning, the Dean of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, and the Director of HR, this individual plays a key role in shaping faculty experiences. Additionally, the Dean of Faculty will co-lead the School Life Committee and may teach one class throughout the year. In partnership with department chairs and the Director of HR, the Dean leads faculty recruitment, assessment, and retention efforts.

Position Responsibilities:

Faculty Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Holds policies related to faculty job expectations and leads the annual review of the Faculty Guidebook.
  • Oversees the academic hiring process, in collaboration with the Director of Human Resources.
  • Collaborates with the Director of HR, Dean of Teaching and Learning, administrators, and Head of School on new faculty and staff onboarding, orientation, and ongoing mentoring.
  • Oversees faculty observation, evaluation, mentorship, and development, including the continued development of the overall process and annual reflection.
  • Oversees teacher performance, in collaboration with Department Chairs and the Dean of Teaching and Learning.
  • Regularly visits classrooms and observes teaching, supporting faculty in their continued professional growth.
  • Serves on the committee that reviews and approves professional development opportunities for faculty and staff, with oversight of approximately a $350k PD budget.
  • Partners with the Director of Human Resources to address faculty concerns, employee agreements, leaves of absence, and compliance with school policies.
  • Oversees the assignment and management of duties and responsibilities for faculty and staff to support curricular and co-curricular programming.
  • Supports the Dean of Teaching and Learning and Department Chairs in faculty assignments, including the number of sections, teaching assignments, and the assignment of other duties and responsibilities.
  • Leads, in collaboration with the Dean of Teaching and Learning, Head of School, and other senior admin, the coordination, design, and facilitation of faculty In-Service Days and bi-monthly facstaff meetings to create a narrative arc for the year.
  • In collaboration with the Dean of Teaching and Learning, is responsible for setting the agendas and facilitating the Teaching and Learning Leadership Team (TLLT) meetings.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Communicates weekly with faculty and staff via the Head, Heart, and Hands Weekly (HHH), coordinating with All Admin to gather information and updates.
  • Participates in professional development that brings an awareness of trends in education and enthusiasm for forward thinking practices
  • Along with the Administrative Team, monitors the general safety of the members of the school community, including responsibilities such as admin on duty
  • Along with the Administrative Team, monitors the implementation of the L-W Crisis Management Plan, responds to school emergencies, and works collaboratively with other administrators in emergency situations
  • Meets regularly with and supervises Department Chairs, including running the Department Chair search process in collaboration with the Dean of Teaching and Learning
  • Active participation in admin meetings, committees, and ongoing strategic planning and accreditation task force

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Masters degree in education or related experience
  • At least five years of experience as a classroom teacher, with experience in the development and administration of curriculum
  • Models encouragement and compassion through interactions with all members of the community
  • Demonstrates a passion for the craft and profession of teaching as well as for coaching teachers
  • Possesses highly effective communication skills and strong cultural competencies
  • Has significant experience with diverse pedagogies and educational technologies in service to a diverse student body
  • Leadership skills, with strength in leading teams and creating a collaborative environment
  • Values collegial collaboration, feedback and self-reflection as a means to improve the institution
