Purpose of the Position:
The Electrical Mechanic supports plant operations by ensuring reliable and efficient performance of all machinery and equipment in an industrial setting. This role involves maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and mechanical systems to ensure seamless production processes and equipment reliability.
Essential Job Functions:
- Equipment Monitoring: Perform daily inspections and monitor plant equipment to ensure they operate within normal parameters.
- Maintenance and Repairs: Maintain and repair machinery, including motors, pneumatics, vacuum systems, heating elements, conveying systems, and thermoforming equipment.
- Preventative Maintenance: Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance and maintain detailed records of all repairs and inspections.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical system malfunctions using appropriate tools.
- Component Replacement: Repair or replace defective electrical and mechanical components, including relays, switches, motors, and sensors, based on schematics, technical drawings, and manuals.
- Testing and Calibration: Observe and test machinery operation to verify repair effectiveness and ensure compliance with specifications.
- Safety and Cleanliness: Clean, lubricate, and adjust machinery as needed to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
- New Equipment Installation: Install new equipment, wiring, and electronic systems in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC 2010) and company standards.
- Collaboration: Work closely with operations teams to ensure equipment is functional and supports production requirements.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Completion of a recognized vocational education program in electrical or industrial training OR an Electrical Apprenticeship Program, with at least three years of journey-level experience in the last five years in an industrial maintenance setting.
- Knowledge of methods, equipment, and materials used in the electrical trade.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, safety rules, and operating instructions.
- Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills to operate, troubleshoot, and repair machinery.
- Familiarity with machine tools such as drill presses, grinders, and metalworking equipment for part fabrication and repair.
- Knowledge of how to use and read tools such as dial indicators.
