The Lieber Institute for Brain Development (LIBD) was established in 2010 to plot a new course in biomedical research that would change the lives of individuals affected with developmental brain disorders. Job Summary :
The Drug Discovery and Development Group is seeking a highly motivated Staff Scientist to join our In Vivo Pharmacology team. Our multidisciplinary group of medicinal chemists, biochemists, and neuroscientists is dedicated to identifying and validating novel therapeutics for schizophrenia and related neuropsychiatric disorders. The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to establish and develop the group’s quantitative EEG (qEEG) capabilities, applying state-of-the-art electrophysiological techniques to investigate neurobiological mechanisms of disease and therapeutic intervention. This position offers a chance to lead the integration of EEG and local field potential (LFP) recordings into our in vivo pharmacology pipeline, contributing to cutting-edge drug discovery efforts in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Establish and develop the group’s qEEG platform , implementing EEG and LFP recording techniques in mice to assess neural network activity in models of schizophrenia and related disorders.
- Design and execute in vivo electrophysiology studies , including :
Multi-site EEG / LFP recordings in freely moving rodents
3. Develop and optimize experimental protocols for in vivo pharmacokinetic / pharmacodynamic (PK / PD) assessments of novel compounds using electrophysiological endpoints.
4. Lead data analysis efforts , applying advanced signal processing and statistical methods to extract meaningful insights from EEG / LFP datasets.
5. Collaborate across disciplines (e.g., chemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics) to integrate electrophysiological findings with broader drug discovery efforts.
6. Prepare and present high-quality reports, manuscripts, and grant proposals for internal and external audiences.
7. Ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory guidelines for animal research and contribute to the maintenance of the research animal colony.

Compensation
Candidates are hired within the starting salary range for the position which is the lower portion of the overall range. The starting salary range for this position is $70k - $80k with opportunities for employee growth over time. Placement in the starting range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process.
