As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Construction Controller/Project Accountant to oversee our accounting and financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting and strategic financial management on a project level.
Position Overview:
The Construction Controller/Project Accountant will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities, maintaining accurate job cost accounting, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and providing strategic financial guidance to company leadership. This role requires deep expertise in construction accounting, job cost tracking, and financial controls to drive efficiency and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the financial management of the company, overseeing all accounting functions including job costing, general ledger, financial reporting, accounts payable (AP), and accounts receivable (AR).
- Prepare and analyze monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) tracking/reporting. Also performing a closeout of WIP.
- Manage budgeting and forecasting to ensure financial stability and growth of the project
- Oversee job cost tracking and project financial performance, working closely with project managers to ensure accurate reporting.
- Work with corporate accounting team, to provide accurate financial picture of projects.
- Monitor and enforce internal controls to protect company assets and mitigate financial risk.
- Implement and enhance financial systems, accounting software, and process automation to improve efficiency.
- Handle subcontractor compliance, including lien waivers, insurance certificates, and contract financial terms.
- Provide financial insights to company leadership, supporting strategic planning and decision-making.
- Generate invoices with project managers and oversee billing process on key projects
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred). Construction management is satisfactory.
- 5 years of construction accounting experience
- Strong expertise in job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition.
- Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g., Sage, HCSS, ViewPoint, or similar).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with project managers, estimators, and executive leadership.
