Operations Director
Operations Director Position Summary:
The Operations Director is a key leader who supports our mission to build resilience through outdoor adventure. The Operations Director has a thorough understanding of all the details involved in making our programs run smoothly and safely, while ensuring that we’re operating with industry best practices and are meeting all our accreditation requirements. The operations director has a heart that aligns with our mission, seeks out quality improvement opportunities and represents Life Adventure Center at community events with a professional presence.
Job duties and responsibilities:
· Responsible for the scheduling and timely implementation of training for all staff including providing training, tracking trainings, and identifying and offering solutions for gaps in trainings.
· Recruit, train, support and supervise volunteers to further the mission of LAC.
· Recruit, train, support and supervise seasonal staff members including summer interns that may require connection and collaboration with their college or university.
· Directly supervise Office Manager / Registrar including recruitment, retention, evaluation, coaching, active listening and support.
· Robust community engagement including serving as LAC’s primary representative with local and regional industry groups including ACA, AEE, volunteer fairs, relevant Chamber of Commerce events and others as may be assigned by Executive Director.
· Leadership for annual fundraising event, The Extreme Adventure Challenge including logistics, volunteers, registration and promotion of event.
· Ensures maintenance and compliance of ACA and AEE, as well as other industry standards.
· Prepare budget requests and maintain fiscal accountability.
· Oversee regular inspections, maintenance, replacement and record keeping for all program equipment and facilities in compliance with industry best practices, insurance and accreditation requirements.
· Work closely with appropriate staff and vendors to design, implement and oversee risk management and safety improvement systems in compliance with accreditation requirements.
· Manage food service including ordering, organizing and systematizing kitchen operations.
· Actively leads in staff meetings, seeks out and shares ways to improve workplace communication, wellness, collaboration and innovation.
· Communicates with Executive Director and team any problems, changes, and opportunities for growth when evaluating operational effectiveness, and offers suggestions for improvement.
· Eagerly engages in training as assigned and pursues professional development opportunities to expand competency and program effectiveness.
· As with all positions at LAC, this position extends beyond work as a role model to youth in our community, especially regarding trauma-informed care, growth mindset, respect, communication, leadership and teamwork-values promoted in our programming.
· Provides services in a manner that respects individual dignity and cultural heritage.

Expectations:
· Adaptive to varying schedule, as well as the ability to occasionally work on weekends.
· Commitment to Mission, Vision and Values of Life Adventure Center.
· Applicant must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and sit or stand for extended periods in an outdoor setting.
· Applicant must be able to perform by hiking, biking, climbing, and paddling in extreme conditions (hot, humid, cold, rain, snow) for extended periods.
· Each program team member is expected to become trained and certified to facilitate all areas related to programming provided at LAC. This includes and is not limited to: challenge course, equine, waterfront/canoe, trauma-informed practices, First Aid/CPR, food management, and archery.
· Anticipated time allocation: 70% Administrative, 30% Direct Program Facilitation
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s or master’s degree in recreation, outdoor or experiential education, therapeutic recreation, psychology, social work, education or related field
· Strong ability to connect with trauma affected populations
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Mastery of Microsoft Suite, Camp registration software, volunteer tracking database and social media.
· This position will be required to drive / travel. Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
· Five (5) years of experience facilitating outdoor adventure/therapeutic adventure experiences in a camp, community, and/or behavioral health setting or five (5) years of experience in working with youth and/or underserved populations.

Compensation:
Starting at $55,000/year based on experience, skills and education. Excellent benefits include generous PTO, health insurance, 403(b) with up to 5% employer match contribution, flexible hours and an office located on a spectacular 575-acre farm.
