What are the responsibilities and job description for the SHINE Crew Member position at Life After Incarceration: Transition and Reentry...?
Overview
Supportive Hands In Neighborhood Enhancement (SHINE) started as LAITR’s pilot work program in March, 2023 in collaboration with Ypsilanti Township. SHINE is our litter clean up crew serving the community in Ypsilanti, MI. Because of the struggles we’ve seen with our justice-impacted clients in obtaining jobs with a criminal background, we exclusively hire justice-impacted individuals here at SHINE to provide an equitable chance at successful reintegration.
We believe in empowering team members to work together while taking initiative and pride in their work. We believe in collaboration over everything and we value the voice of each individual on the team.
Our goals with SHINE are to:
1: Provide jobs to justice-impacted individuals allowing them to work towards financial equity as well as obtain work experience for their resume
2: Provide an atmosphere conducive to learning job skills that will help team members advance to higher positions and/or gainful full time employment elsewhere
3: Put a positive stamp on our community through the work that we do to beautify the community
4: Provide a prosocial environment
SHINE Restructure
As of April, 2025, SHINE will be restructured to better align with the goals of this program. Each crew member will have a maximum of 90-days on the job to allow us to serve more individuals through SHINE. SHINE members will leave with potential to accumulate new job skills, a positive work environment, a job to add to their resume and a recommendation letter for future employment. If SHINE members need assistance with jobs after SHINE, we can help connect to other community organizations.
