Position Details:
- Dean of Academics
- Salary Range: $135,000 - $148,000 annually
- Full-Time, Exempt
- 40 hours per week
- Fully Onsite Position in Hayward, CA
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- With the Provost, ensure WASC and CCE institutional and programmatic educational standards and state requirements are met in all academic areas.
- Collaborate with the Provost to ensure clear communication and learning regarding the academic and teaching policies and procedures.
- Through the department chairs and academic faculty, they provide an educational experience to the students that is congruent with the vision, mission, and philosophy of the institution.
- Assist the department chairs in managing the academic faculty, addressing concerns, overseeing faculty attendance, observing instruction and teaching, and assessing pedagogy.
- Manage disciplinary actions that may arise in the academic setting regarding all direct reports.
- With the department chairs, participate in recruiting and hiring new full-time and adjunct faculty.
- Works with department chairs to ensure a well-organized academic experience and prepare students for clinical curriculum and courses.
- Responsible for working with the Provost to ensure staffing, hiring/termination, evaluation, and development of academic departments.
- Assures that department chairs and faculty are working to develop and align student learning outcomes with program outcomes.
- Lead quarterly faculty development in relevant and current topics for higher education and the needs of the college, especially focusing on preparation for national boards outcomes and clinical competency.
- A working knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) assists in developing, maintaining, and adhering to it.
- Assists the Provost in various compliance units (Learning Commons, financial aid, CCE, etc.) in overseeing the compliance process and procedures for the institution as needed.
- Curriculum and Instructional Oversight:
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the institution’s academic curriculum and programs.
- Ensure alignment with institutional goals, accreditation standards, and industry best practices.
- Provide oversight for the delivery of high-quality instruction across all academic programs.
- Program Development and Assessment:
- Participate in the development of new academic programs that align with institutional priorities and emerging market demands.
- Collaborate with the Institutional Research & Assessment on program assessment efforts to ensure academic excellence, utilizing data-driven approaches to evaluate program and course outcomes for all programs.
- Assist the Provost with accreditation and compliance requirements for curriculum and program quality.
- Academic Oversight of Additional Educational Sites:
- Assist the Provost in providing leadership for all additional education sites (AESs), ensuring academic standards and integrity across locations.
- Coordinate with the Provost and other LCCW campuses and administrators to ensure seamless delivery of academic services and student success.
- Management of Department and Program Chairs:
- Supervise and support department and academic chairs, ensuring effective hiring, development, and management of faculty and academic programs.
- Facilitate external and internal professional development opportunities for academic leaders and support faculty development initiatives.
- Foster collaboration by and through inter-departmental meetings and key stakeholders to enhance interdisciplinary programs and initiatives.
- Academic Service Teams:
- Oversee the academic success center (ASC) to ensure alignment with institutional goals and student success.
- Promote a student-centered approach to academic services, streamlining processes to enhance the student experience.
- Work with student life, faculty, and other key stakeholders to help drive students who need it to the ASC.
- Education Technology:
- Ensure the integration of cutting-edge technology in support of both on-campus and online learning environments.
- Collaborate with faculty to promote the effective use of educational technology in the classroom.
- The educational technology department reports directly to the Dean, supporting educational technology.
Accreditation and Compliance:
- Assist the Provost in managing compliance with all regulatory agencies, including but not limited to WSCUC and CCE accreditation requirements.
- Support the Provost in coordination of leading the preparation for accreditation visits, ensuring timely submission of required documentation and reports.
- Stay informed of changes in regulatory standards and ensure institutional readiness for compliance.
Qualifications:
- DC, or Doctoral degree in higher education, academic leadership, or a related field. Will accept Master that is seeking (in process) a doctoral degree.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in academics, administration, or leadership roles.
- Demonstrated expertise in program assessment and curriculum development or accreditation processes.
- Strong understanding of higher education trends, regulatory requirements, and best practices in academic leadership.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and senior leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with WSCUC, CCE, or other accreditation processes.
- Familiarity with education technology platforms and instructional innovation.
- Experience overseeing academic programs across multiple campuses or educational sites.
