What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinic RN Position position at Life Choices of Central Michigan?
Objectives: Perform a variety of clinic functions while providing support and care to patients. Maintain professional standards of care while following the directives of the Co-Medical Director in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics. Support a team environment that provides the best care possible to patients of Life Choices of Central Michigan (LCCM).
Reports to: Co-Medical Directors, President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Supervises: Medical and non-medical volunteers who are not advanced providers
Qualifications:
- Be a committed Christian who demonstrates a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
- Exhibit strong commitment and dedication to the pro-life position and sexual purity.
- Agree with and be willing to uphold the Service Agreement of Life Choices.
- Holds a current Registered Nurse’s License in good standing with the state of Michigan and able to maintain that license during employment at Life Choices.
- Have one year of experience as a volunteer in some ministry capacity.
- Have at least two years of work experience as a Registered Nurse.
- Preferred candidates will possess two years of experience with supervising experience or equivalent.
- Exhibit skill in interpersonal communication, public speaking, and problem solving.
- Exhibit proficiency of basic computer skills including the usage of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Microsoft Word and show willingness to demonstrate proficiency in computer skills.
- Be able to provide spiritual leadership, encouragement, and direction for volunteers and our clients when appropriate.
- Encourage and support a teamwork environment that values personal and organizational growth.
- Be able to carry out responsibilities with little or no supervision.
Major Responsibilities:
- Administration:
- Work with administrative assistant and other medical staff regarding patient scheduling, patient documents, and clinic literature or resources.
- In the absence of the administrative assistant, handle routine calls, check phone messages and schedule patient appointments that do not require CEO or COO assistance.
- In conjunction with the Co-Medical Directors and other medical staff, develops, maintains, reviews and updates clinic policies and procedures. Performs all clinic duties within the parameters of the current policy and procedure requirements.
- In conjunction with the medical staff, is responsible for the organization, planning and assessment of all medical services provided by Life Choices.
- Perform safety inspections as required.
- Keep track of medical inventory. Collaborate with medical team when ordering necessary clinic supplies within budget.
- Provide weekly reports to CEO and COO and monthly Executive Board reports.
- Keep current on knowledge and issues relevant to the clinic.
- Upkeep, cleaning, stocking of all exam rooms.
- Assists President/CEO and COO with verifying current licenses status and having those displaced properly in the clinic.
II. Patient Services:
- General Services
- Be committed to patient confidentiality through scheduling, appointment, documentation, and follow-up.
- Provide accurate documentation of patient visits.
- Make nursing judgments that reflect safe nursing practices.
- Assist Co-Medical Director(s) as a witness during patient exams.
- Make referrals to physicians, nurses, and counselors to assure that patients receive the best medical, nursing, and psychosocial care possible by giving the patients our local resource brochure.
- Educate patients regarding sexual health risks.
- Oversee patient records and responsible for follow-up as needed or directed by Co-Medical Director(s).
- Pregnancy Testing
- Evaluate, select, and maintain needed educational materials and resources for patient use with professional assistance when necessary.
- Perform urine pregnancy testing and documentation.
- Provide pregnancy options conversation to all pregnancy test patients.
- Ultrasound Services
- Perform ultrasounds on patients with pregnancy tests that read as positive after completion of required training and certifications.
- Communication and follow-up with OB/GYN Medical Director(s) regarding ultrasound readings and any other concerns or issues.
- Stay current with evidence-based practices as it relates to ultrasound.
- Act as ultrasound witness at times where this is required because of other staffing needs.
- STI Testing, Treatment, and Referral
- Maintain testing STD log book per policy and procedure manual directives.
- Communicate and process tests results from testing lab.
- Notify patient of test results, under the direction of the Co-Medical Directors.
- Educate patients regarding sexual health risks.
- Distribution of medications under direction of the Co-Medical Directors.
- Oversee patient records and be responsible for follow-up as needed or directed by the Co-Medical Directors.
- Assure communicable diseases are being reported to agencies with regards to positive STI/STD tests.
III. Recruitment and Training:
- Receive orientation mentoring as an incoming staff member. Provide orientation guidance and mentoring of incoming staff and volunteers as needed.
- By request of President/CEO or COO, be prepared to present and/or participate in in-service meetings for volunteers or other staff.
- Communicates with ultrasound witness to provide adequate observation of ultrasound procedure.
- Attend conferences/webinars as provided for in budget relevant to the role.
IV. Supervision/Evaluation:
- Be available to volunteers for information, questions, and assistance.
- Communicates with Director of Parenting Programs & Volunteer Coordination, to be sure that volunteers have up to date information for training and continuing education purposes.
V. Public Relations
- Maintain and create working relationships with agencies, physicians, donors, churches and organizations that refer to or accept referrals from Life Choices Medical Clinic.
- Works effectively with CEO, key staff and volunteers to assess, recommend, communicate and promote medical and client services in light of Life Choices’ visions and mission.
