GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Director of Nursing is to maintain agency integrity, ensure the effective and efficient delivery of services, and maintain quality, compliance, and professional standards for direct care services by providing supervision, clinical oversight and guidance to nursing and direct care staff in order to fulfill the agency's mission. The Director of Nursing assures maximum utilization of direct care and nursing staff resources, and compliance with laws, standards and regulations for home care services. Supervises Nursing and service coordination staff, and uses prudence and independent judgment regarding assignments, taking disciplinary action, addressing grievances and employee performance. This position requires advanced knowledge, discretion, professional judgment and implementation of agency policy. The Director of Nursing has HIPAA unrestricted access to client information, reports to the Chief Executive and is a management staff member.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or appropriate educational and nursing experience.
  • Be a New Jersey Board of Nursing Licensed Registered Nurse.
  • Have the willingness to travel throughout the service area, including the ability to drive and have a valid driver’s license and proper auto insurance.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory and community health experience.
  • Must have the ability to supervise and direct the work of others and exercise discretion and independent judgment, and have exceptional communication skills and telephone manner, a teamwork attitude, decision-making skills, and ability to function in a stressful environment with multiple simultaneous demands.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB:

  • Provide monthly updates to the Chief Executive of all active employee health records, as well as contacting employees who need such health records completed for the month.
  • Keeping all Health Attestations for employees up to date. Review all Health Attestations annually.
  • Oversee and maintain annual CHHA clinical competencies, annual employee evaluations, and nurse delegations.
  • Create and execute the training and development for direct care service staff.
  • Maintain the scheduling of CHHAs going into and leaving cases
  • Annual onsite observation of all Nurse Supervisors.
  • Interview all CHHA candidates upon hiring.
  • Responsible for keeping our internal team updated on field activities and observations.
  • Supervise the delivery of direct service for the agency. This includes ensuring compliance with all laws, standards, and program regulations and requirements, and providing clinical expertise to nursing and direct care staff and ensuring appropriate credentialing of care-giving (professionals and paraprofessional) employees.
  • Assure maximum utilization of resources including ensuring adequate and appropriate service delivery and direct care employees are available to meet the agency’s service delivery needs, and monitoring the level of service provided.
  • Travel to Client’s homes to perform nursing duties including nursing skills, client assessment and reassessment, nurse delegation when deemed necessary, and supervision of nursing and direct care employees. This work involves applying nursing knowledge, professional judgment, and discretion.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment when hiring, scheduling, disciplining and dismissing direct care staff according to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Supervise nursing staff by exercising prudence and independent judgment regarding assignments, taking disciplinary action, addressing grievances and employee performance. This includes traveling to the client’s home to observe staff, and holding regular staff meetings.
  • Assure all professional standards are met and that the organization remains in compliance with accreditation, Board of Nursing, and licensing standards.
  • Approve and sign-off on all clinical paperwork and other necessary documentation,
  • Direct and participate in ongoing risk management activities and in the annual total agency evaluation.
  • Direct and participate in compliance audits as required.
  • Provide support for all Professional Advisory Committee (PAC) functions, including planning for meetings, preparing reports, and maintaining PAC minutes.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with the Chief Executive, including preparation of reports as requested.
  • Write and maintain computer and written records and reports in a timely manner, which includes the use of an assortment of office equipment (phone, keyboard, copier, etc.).
  • Work in a variety of home environments and office settings. Travel throughout the service area as necessary.

OTHER DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adherence to Agency policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and protect client and agency confidentiality.
  • Maintain a professional image and good appearance.
  • Be punctual and maintain an excellent attendance record.
  • Attend Agency meetings monthly including, but not limited too, Staff, RN and CHHA meetings.
  • Assure customer satisfaction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is in a variety of home environments and office settings. Frequent travel by car throughout the service area is necessary. Tasks involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue (OSHA Category I). This position routinely requires standing, sitting, stooping, walking up and down stairs, driving, seeing, hearing, speaking, writing, reading, and the use of an assortment of office equipment (phone, keyboard, copier, etc.).
