The Development Operations Manager is a key member of the National Development team, responsible for overseeing the operational and technological infrastructure that powers Life Science Cares’ fundraising and donor engagement efforts.
Reports To: Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this role will ensure efficient systems, processes, and data management to maximize fundraising outcomes, improve donor experiences, and support the overall development strategy across the organization. The ideal candidate is an analytical, detail-oriented professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for advancing nonprofit missions through operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Gift Processing, Acknowledgement, and Collaboration
- Oversee the gift processing function for the National Development team, ensuring timely, accurate recording and acknowledgment of all contributions.
- Manage and optimize systems for tracking and processing gifts across multiple channels, including online, mail, events, and workplace giving.
- Collaborate with the finance team to ensure accurate monthly reconciliation of gift data with financial records.
- Develop and maintain acknowledgment processes and ensure operational updates are made on an annual basis to ensure donors receive timely and personalized communications.
- Collaborate with affiliate development teams to align operation strategies, timely reconciliation, and accurate reporting.
Process Improvement, Database, and Technology Management
- Database administration lead, which includes overseeing the organization’s donor database to ensure accurate data entry, integrity, and segmentation.
- Lead system audits, updates, and integrations to improve functionality and support strategic fundraising initiatives.
- Seek out and lead relationships with vendors to implement and maintain new tools or platforms to support wealth screening, relationship mapping, and prospecting.
- Ensure adherence to nonprofit accounting standards, IRS regulations, and organizational policies.
- Support staff account in preparation for the annual audit, specifically as it relates to gathering donor/grant documentation, coordinating across affiliates, and ensuring recommendations are implemented.
Development Strategy, Reporting, and Analytics
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to track fundraising performance, donor engagement, and campaign effectiveness.
- Support the national annual fundraising plan by ensuring systems are optimized for campaign planning and execution, this could also include support on internal and external communications such as emails, social media, email newsletters, and annual reports.
- Provide actionable insights to the development team to drive decision-making and goal-setting.
- Gather and maintain, comprehensive information on prospects, including their philanthropic interests within Life Science Cares' key markets
- Ensure compliance with donor privacy laws and reporting standards, including maintaining detailed documentation.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, information systems, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in nonprofit development operations, including database management, gift processing, and fundraising operations.
- Demonstrated experience managing donor databases (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge) and ensuring data integrity.
- Proficiency in gift processing workflows, including reconciling gift data with finance teams, and delivering timely acknowledgments.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and generate actionable insights.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel for reporting and data analysis.
- Experience developing and implementing process improvements to optimize operational efficiency.
- Demonstrated communication skills with experience in coaching, training, and managing across and up to team members.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- A passion for Life Science Cares’ mission and an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities within nonprofit fundraising.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in an operations role within a nonprofit organization, preferably in development.
- Experience managing fundraising software integrations (e.g., online giving platforms, email marketing tools, finance systems).
- Experience with prospect research tools and donor segmentation strategies. Experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge is a plus.
- Understanding of fundraising compliance, donor privacy laws, and financial reconciliation processes.
- Previous experience managing technology projects, including system migrations, audits, or software upgrades.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this role is $75,000 - $85,000 based on experience. Life Science Cares offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision benefits, and 401(k) with employer match, as well as generous paid time off and flexible work schedules.
