Outreach & Story Production Specialist

Life Story Club
Brooklyn, NY Contractor
POSTED ON 4/3/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/3/2025

Organization: Life Story Club | 41 Flatbush Ave, Suite 3B, Brooklyn, NY 11217

10 hours/week, $25/hour

Life Story Club (LSC) is on a mission to combat loneliness and social isolation among older adults by creating vibrant virtual social clubs where our members can share their life stories and build meaningful friendships. Today, nearly 1 in 4 older adults faces prolonged loneliness and isolation (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, 2020). The consequences are staggering—comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes a day (Holt-Lunstad, 2015). This silent epidemic increases the risk of depression, anxiety, and cardiovascular disease by 30%, and dementia by 50% (NASEM, 2020).

At LSC, we’re addressing this growing public health crisis head-on. Our small groups of 8–12 older adults meet weekly—via Zoom or phone—to connect, share stories, and foster friendships. As part of this enriching experience, participants have the unique opportunity to record their stories, which are shown during special events and included in our online story archive. These cherished keepsakes become treasures for participants and their loved ones, preserving memories and deepening bonds.

To make our clubs as accessible as possible, we partner with Public Libraries, Settlement Houses, NORCs (Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities), community centers, and health, nutrition, and social service providers throughout NYC and beyond. Through our accessibility efforts, we aim to meet older adults where they are.

While LSC welcomes all older adults, we focus on those most at risk—individuals facing poor health, recent losses, low income, or those from immigrant or LGBTQ communities. Our work creates spaces where everyone belongs, and no one feels alone. Together, we’re turning isolation into connection, one life story at a time.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Outreach and Story Production Specialist. In this role, you will support our mission to bring older adults together in intimate storytelling clubs to promote social connection and foster a sense of belonging and purpose. Our Outreach and Story Production Specialist will engage and connect with our older adult members by performing friendly outreach calls, providing meeting reminders, conducting program evaluations and helping preserve members’ valuable stories in our digital archive, the Life Story Library. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, basic editing experience, and a passion for storytelling and building relationships with older adults.

Key Responsibilities:

1.Member Outreach - Weekly Reminder Calls and Surveys

  • Conduct friendly reminder calls to older adult members regarding upcoming club meetings and events.
  • Conduct member evaluation surveys over the phone at 3 months and 6 months of participation
  • Provide a warm and supportive point of contact for members, answering questions and addressing concerns.
  • Will relay issues to the team to troubleshoot concerns brought up by members.

2.Story Documentation

  • Perform initial edits of members' stories to ensure clarity, readability, and alignment with archival standards.
  • Collaborate with members to gather photos or other visual assets to accompany their stories.

3.Data Management in Salesforce

  • Record all member interactions and follow-up notes accurately in Salesforce.
  • Create club pages and upload completed stories and associated assets into the organization’s archive platform.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and patient demeanor.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required
  • Detail-oriented with basic editing and proofreading skills.
  • Experience with data entry or CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain a high level of organization.
  • Familiarity with older adult populations and/or interest in storytelling is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Zoom AI and basic photo editing tools is an advantage.

Work Environment:

This position is mostly remote with occasional in-person meetings or events in New York City. Flexibility in scheduling is necessary to accommodate members’ availability.
