Adjunct Faculty – Physiology

Description
The Basic Sciences Division at Life University invites applicants to apply for an adjunct teaching position. Qualified individuals should have laboratory teaching experience. The successful candidate will possess a doctorate degree in some area of Biological Science with coursework in anatomy and physiology. Teaching responsibilities may include lecture and/or anatomy labs in Embryology, Histology, Osteology and Arthrology, Spinal Anatomy, Musculoskeletal Gross Anatomy, Visceral Gross Anatomy, Head and Neck, Neuroanatomy CNS, and/or Neuroanatomy PNS in the College of Chiropractic. Our curriculum combines hands-on laboratory-rich modern technology experiences using Anatomage tables and models.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with the Life University Honor Code as well as all university and college policies, including those in the Faculty Handbook.
  • Primarily responsible for the instruction, supervision, and evaluation of students in the classroom and/or laboratory setting as well as course assessments for the department.
  • Prepare a syllabus for each course taught using the college template and post it to the class on the Blackboard site.
  • Teach class in a professional manner, teaching the material that is present in the syllabus and course outline.
  • Start and end each class on time.
  • Post in a prominent place your teaching and student office hours schedule for each quarter. Be present during student office hours. Office hours are for the primary purpose of communicating with students regarding the courses you are teaching and academic advising.
  • Appropriately maintain all necessary records for each course taught.
  • Request peers to assist you in proctoring exams. For large classes, every exam should have at least one proctor and the instructor present.
  • Attend scheduled meetings and events as appropriate and as requested by the supervisor.
  • Cultivate in oneself and others an attitude of helpfulness, personal commitment to building relationships, managing to the best solution, and being user-friendly always.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics

  • Teaching and laboratory skills in dissection (virtual-Anatomage) preferred.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidentiality with regard to students/employee information.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, adhering to strict timelines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • High degree of initiative and independent judgment.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with or ability to use multimedia and Microsoft Office software.
  • Familiarity with course management software (i.e., Blackboard) helpful.

Qualifications


Requirements

  • Responsible for teaching and testing students in any area of Physiology and/or Anatomy as needed.
  • Must be able to organize and implement course content in the classroom setting to facilitate student learning.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Ph.D., D.C., or M.D. degree.
  • Teaching experience in the area of human physiology or related field at undergraduate, graduate, or professional institutions.
