Description
The Director of Athletic Health Care is responsible for oversight of athletic department operations to ensure optimal efficiency and effectiveness across many areas. This position is dedicated to the continuous assessment of student-athlete needs and provides a comprehensive, integrated approach to student-athlete health and well-being that mirrors Life University’s emphasis on health and wellness within a vitalistic philosophy. As a member of the administrative team, sound leadership presence is required. The Director of Athletic Health Care performs responsibilities in alignment with the department vision of being a leading institution in performance and meaningful student-athlete experience, and consistently demonstrates valued behaviors of respect, grit, constant growth, and integrity.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a strategy for incorporating all areas of SA wellbeing (athletic training, sports chiropractic, strength & conditioning, mental health/counseling, sport psychology, sleep education and nutrition) so that care is both comprehensive and integrated.
- Oversee the scheduling and execution of physicals for student-athletes.
- Maintain overall budget for the department.
- Hire/terminate/manage any staff, work study, or volunteers associated with Athletic Health Care department.
- Collect annual student-athlete feedback via surveys.
- Coordinate educational training sessions for all department staff and support continual staff professional skill development.
- Oversee and ensure all staff are utilizing Athletic Health Care electronic notes system to maintain clear, concise and professional records, forms and documentation as needed.
- Organize yearly drug education programming and drug testing for all student-athletes.
- Ensure proper liability and insurance coverage of all Life University Athletic Care staff, contractors, as well as ensure proper liability understanding of all groups visiting Life University campus.
- Ensure that deductibles are paid on a timely basis, and student-athlete medical bills are submitted to insurance in a timely manner.
- Work closely with all university constituents to maintain effective and productive communication flows and operations.
- Provide athletic training coverage to assigned teams.
- Continuously assess student-athlete needs and work with appropriate constituents to maximize resources to meet these needs.
- Monitor patient injury rates and clinical outcome measures of staff.
- Attend meetings as necessary and/or as requested by the Director of Athletics and other clinic, college, and University constituents.
- Work in conjunction with S&C and performance nutrition for comprehensive care of the student athlete.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine, Physical Education, Kinesiology, or other related discipline.
- A license to practice athletic training in the state of Georgia, or the attainment of such license within 30 days of acceptance of employment.
- CPR/AED Certification
- Experience in athletic training in a collegiate setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five years’ experience in athletic training in a collegiate setting.
- Experience in developing and implementing sport injury management programs at the collegiate level.
- Doctor of Athletic Training Degree
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift/carry/relocate equipment and supplies to various locations for athletic events
- Ability to drive to various locations
- Ability to demonstrate work outside in all weather conditions
Working Conditions
- Work performed in various locations in and around the Life University campus, including athletic fields and gymnasiums
- Travel required
- Weekend & evening work is required. Must be flexible to accommodate a fast-paced and time demanding profession
