Life University is looking for an experienced, highly committed individual to serve at our Marietta, Georgia campus as an Assistant/Associate Professor in Computer Information Systems & Technologies. The successful candidate will fulfill the educational mission of the department, the college, and the university in cooperation with other members of the department and others in the university community. In addition to teaching face-to-face classes in various day and evening times, the faculty member will follow the curriculum set by the department. The faculty member is responsible for managing, responding to, and resolving reports and allegations of violations, as well as assessing the effectiveness of the University’s conduct system. Life University has developed and implemented an Honor Code and Standards of Conduct, which serve as a set of expectations for the living and learning environment provided by the University.
Responsibilities
- Comply with the Life University Honor Code as well as all university and college policies, including those in the Faculty Handbook.
- Primarily responsible for the instruction, supervision, and evaluation of students in the classroom and/or laboratory setting as well as course assessments for the department in accordance with all applicable University standards.
- Encourage free pursuit of learning among students and discharge pedagogical responsibilities to the highest standards.
- Prepare a syllabus for each course taught using the college template and post it to the class on the Blackboard site.
- Teach class in a professional manner, teaching the material that is present in the syllabus and course outline.
- Start and end each class on time.
- Post in a prominent place your teaching and student office hours schedule for each quarter. Be present during student office hours. Office hours are for the primary purpose of communicating with students regarding the courses you are teaching and academic advising.
- Maintain a professional work week consisting of approximately 40 hours per week commitment.
- Appropriately maintain all necessary records for each course taught.
- Request peers to assist you in proctoring exams. For large classes, every exam should have at least one proctor and the instructor present.
- Serve on committees and task forces as requested.
- Attend scheduled meetings and events as appropriate and as requested.
- Attend and participate in faculty development programs.
- Participate in professional activities that allow the faculty members to stay current in their field of expertise. Faculty are encouraged to engage in scholarly activities (i.e., research, professional writing, and presentation) as relates to their field of expertise.
- Complete at least three credit hours of service per quarter as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
- Cultivate in oneself and others an attitude of helpfulness, personal commitment to building relationships, managing to the best solution, and being user-friendly always.
Requirements
- Minimum of a master’s in computer science, computer information systems, or a related discipline.
- Substantial industry experience and industry certification(s) preferred.
- Significant experience teaching face-to-face technology courses at the college level.
- Availability for travel to the Marietta campus multiple days throughout the week, with preference given to those with daytime schedule availability.
- Strong teaching and laboratory skills for face-to-face classes. (This position is not for online classes.)
- Advanced proficiency with a wide range of software and technology, including Windows administration, Linux, Microsoft Excel (including Pivot Tables), Microsoft Access, SQL, HTML, CSS, Microsoft networks, data security tools, troubleshooting, and multimedia such as video editing and digital imaging tools.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
