What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional ~ Full-Time - Day / Swing Shift position at Life Works?
Life Works is currently looking to Direct Support Professionals (DSP’s) who would like to make a difference in the lives of individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Direct Support Professionals assist children and /or adults to participate in a variety of activities that make up their life at home and in their community.
Life Works residential programs operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. All part time and full time schedules will include a minimum of one weekend workday.
- Day / Swing scheduled shifts will generally fall between the hours of 6am and 10pm.
- DSP’s must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- DSP’s shall have essential physical skills – be able to run, squat, stoop/bend, kneel, climb stairs, be able to lift at least 50 pounds (or ¼ own body weight), push and pull against potential resistance; and be able to implement non-physical and physical interventions and CPR with people supported when needed.
- Must be able to lift and transfer clients who need such assistance
- DSP’s shall have adequate vision, reading, writing and documentation skills and hearing to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, overnights (as applicable) and holidays.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be able to provide assistance, as needed, in safely loading and unloading vehicle passengers and assist individuals to safety in emergency situations.
- Must complete required TB test (if applicable)
- Must obtain criminal clearances as required. These could include: the Washington criminal history check, FBI criminal history check, and child abuse clearances in accordance with DSHS regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to adhere to the required schedule for the job.
- Previous experience working with individuals with an intellectual disability, behavioral health and/or medical needs
- Good driving record is a plus!
- Employees working 30 hours per week will be eligible to choose from two different medical plan options once they meet eligibility requirements (1st of the month following 60 days of employment).
