POSITION TITLE : Distribution Operations Manager
REPORTS TO : Nutrition Programs Assistant Director
POSITION SUMMARY :
The Distribution Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and distribution processes for the Nutrition Programs home-delivered and contract site meals program, ensuring efficient packaging, inventory management, and delivery of meals to clients. This role will focus on enhancing distribution workflows, improving efficiency, and maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulations. The Distribution Operations Manager will supervise all LifeCare Alliance’s Distribution Kitchen staff, manage meal inventories, enforce quality control measures, and collaborate with other departments to achieve organizational goals. The position requires strong leadership skills to oversee meal distribution lines, monitor performance metrics, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, the role involves coordinating with volunteers and assigning appropriate tasks to support operational needs. A results-driven mindset and a commitment to safety, efficiency, and quality are essential. Work is performed under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Nutrition Programs.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Operational and Inventory Management – Oversee daily meal distribution operations, including scheduling, packaging processes, and distribution logistics. Develop and implement workflows to enhance productivity and reduce waste. Manage packing materials, supplies, and meal inventories to ensure accurate stock levels, minimize shortages, and optimize supply chain efficiency. Collaborate with LifeCare Alliance’s Production Kitchen staff to streamline operations.
- Team Supervision and Leadership – Manage, train, and evaluate all Distribution Kitchen staff including team leads, food service workers, and porter. Develop work schedules, oversee performance metrics, and ensure adherence to standard operating procedures. Work with Human Resources to facilitate recruitment, onboarding, and training programs focused on safety and operational excellence.
- Quality Control and Compliance – Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements such as ODA and other food safety guidelines. Monitor distribution output for adherence to quality standards, troubleshoot process inefficiencies, and implement corrective actions to improve quality and consistency. Maintain accurate records of food production, inventory, and staff activities while ensuring meal schedules and deadlines are met.
- Collaboration and Communication – Work closely with LifeCare Alliance’s Production Kitchen and logistics team, on day-to-day operations to ensure smooth meal deliveries. Engage with and supervise volunteers, assigning appropriate tasks to align with distribution goals and ensure their contributions effectively support operational needs. Provide clear instructions and training to ensure quality and safety standards are maintained.
- Service Expansion – Develop strategies for adapting operations and workflow as opportunities arise. Identify areas for improvement in overall operations and implement changes. Stay updated on industry best practices and trends.
- Other – Performs other departmental and agency functions as necessary
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Work is conducted in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, with exposure to industrial equipment, changing temperatures, noise levels, and potential safety hazards associated with meal distribution operations. This role requires flexibility, as work schedules may include holidays and weekends to meet operational needs.
