We have an immediate opportunity for a Phlebotomist - PRN.
General Summary: The Phlebotomist performs inpatient and outpatient venipunctures and capillary collections for laboratory testing, according to the Laboratory Policy and Procedure Manual. This position receives incoming laboratory specimens as they are collected or delivered and prepares them for analysis by the appropriate Laboratory Section or Reference Laboratory. The Phlebotomist is actively involved in department activities, transdisciplinary team activities, and LifeCare activities to ensure individualized, patient-centered health care for all patient populations admitted to LifeCare Hospital.
Essential Functions:
- Using the hospital EMR system, successfully obtains and verifies physician orders daily for needed laboratory procedures. Delivers laboratory reports to nursing unit for physician/nurse review as per facility process.score: N/A
- Performs venipuncture procedures within appropriate timeframe (e.g., stat orders, etc.) and executes specimen collection on patient population served according to policy and procedures to render a specimen with good integrity.
- Verifies patient identification prior to the procedure and accurately labels specimen post procedure. Identifies problems/needs for performing specimen collection. Responds appropriately and assists others in responding to emergencies in a calm and effective manner.
- As needed, assists nursing with performing venipuncture procedure on patients whose central lines do not render blood sample.
- As needed, completes laboratory accession record, data collection, and filing in a timely manner. If applicable, appropriately submits charges in a timely manner.
- As needed, aids Medical Technician and/or Technologist with specimen processing and test set up.
- As needed, assists with restocking specimen collection supplies on the floors (e.g. vacutainer tubes, butterfly needles, bedside blood glucose lancets, glucose strips, etc…)
- Plans/organizes work for assigned shift to properly utilize time, resources and supplies to ensure that patients receive appropriate quality care.
- The knowledge and skills necessary to perform the position requirements are demonstrated through the successful completion of competencies established for the position, to include population served, and other special needs of patients or customers served by the department.
- Adheres to LifeCare policies, procedures, all safety plans, and all standards imposed by regulatory organizations.
- Regular attendance and timelines is required.

Requirements
Experience: Six to twelve months of prior phlebotomist experience is preferred.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of approved Phlebotomy program is required.
Licensure/Certification: Current Phlebotomist Certification in state where currently practicing is required. BLS certification is required. All Phlebotomists must maintain current certification, as required by State, and BLS certification while employed with LifeCare Hospitals.
Salary : $32,500 - $41,200
