This position is seasonal and runs May 2025 through September 2025.
Position Type: Seasonal Part Time - Shifts, Locations and job duties vary.
Pay rate is dependent on location, position and experience. Incentives available.
Uniform and training are included, at no cost.
Please read this job description carefully, as this is a physically demanding job, in which strong swimming skills are necessary. This job is also outdoors, in which employees will be exposed to heat and sun. It is recommended that you eat and drink before your shift and during your downtime while working to maintain energy levels, focus, and proper hydration.
Job Purpose: Responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies.
Duties:
- Responsible for the safety of pool patrons by preventing accidents and responding quickly to emergency situations.
- Enforces all facility policies, rules and regulations.
- Inspects the facility and reports any unsafe conditions to the Head Guard, Facility Manager or District Supervisor.
- Assists with the upkeep of facility cleanliness, which may include (but not limited to) skimming/vacuuming, scrubbing tiles, track pick up and general custodial tasks.
- Maintains inventories and cares for pool and company property and equipment.
- Completes required records and reports (smartphone strongly recommended).
- Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility.
- Recognizes and responds quickly and effectively in emergencies.
- Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
- Participates in regular in-service training sessions.
- Presents a professional appearance and attitude at all times.
- Must be able to verbally communicate with the public and staff effectively.
- Communicates with a wide range of people.
- Maintains a high standard of customer care.
- Provides information and directions.
- Encourages and guides participants.
- Attends all scheduled shifts (time-off approved two-weeks in advance on a case-by-case basis).
- Maintains fitness level (swimming skills, strength and endurance).
- Monitors and records compliance with safety and department guidelines and rules.
- Maintains attendance, activity, supply, and equipment records.
- Cleans facility areas after completion of activities and at end of workday.
- Reports to Head Guards, District Supervisor, and Aquatics Director.
- Keeps supervisor informed of materials and supplies necessary.
- Demonstrates cooperative behavior with team, supervisors, and the public.
- May involve cash handling.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be at least 15 years of age as of the last day of the lifeguard course you attend with us to become certified.
Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge of general safety practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of First Aid Basic knowledge of personal computer operation.
- Ability to learn and care for equipment and supplies.
- Ability to provide guidance and instruction
- Ability to communicate activity objectives, programs information, and directions.
- Ability to conduct activities following established rules and guidelines.
- Ability to retain and enforce safety rules and department guidelines.
- Ability to evaluate program activities verbally and in writing.
- Ability to obtain Lifeguard/First Aid/Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation/AED certification
- Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.

Ability to pass pre-employment physical skills evaluation and written exam.
You must be able to pass a prerequisite skills evaluation that includes the following:
1. Jump in, submerge, resurface and swim 150 yards continuously, tread water for 2 minutes, and then swim 50 more yards. While swimming, you must keep your face in the water and demonstrate good breath control. You may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed. When treading, you must use only your legs.
2. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Your face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed. Surface dive (head-first or feet-first) to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping your face at or near the surface. Swimming the distance underwater is not permitted. Exit the water without using a ladder or the steps.
