Description
LifeHealth, a federal government contractor, is seeking Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) for Med-Surg, ICU, CLC, especially weekend, holiday, evening, and night hours at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System (SLVHCS).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is required to perform the following tasks:
ü The CNA will work onsite to provide temporary nurse staff support at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System (SLVHCS) at 2400 Canal St. New Orleans, LA 70119.
ü Shifts Available CNA (Geriatrics and Extended Care, Med/Surg and/or Specialty)
ü 8 and 12hr shifts available and will include weekend and holidays
ü Maintain patient/resident confidentiality and a safe patient/resident care environment,

CNA
The Certified Nursing Assistant will help patients/residents by supporting personal hygiene and daily living needs, providing comfort, assisting with ambulation to the bathroom and bathing, and vital sign monitoring. The CNA will work under the guidance of a Licensed Nurse to deliver comprehensive health services to patient/residents.
ü Provides patients' personal hygiene by giving bedpans, urinals, baths, backrubs, shampoos, and shaves; assisting with travel to the bathroom; helping with showers and baths.
ü Provides for activities of daily living by assisting with serving meals, feeding patients as necessary; ambulating, turning, and positioning patients; providing fresh water and nourishment between meals.
ü Provides adjunct care by administering enemas, douches, nonsterile dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, heat treatments, sitz and therapeutic baths; applying restraints.
ü Maintains patient stability by checking vital signs and weight; testing urine; recording and documenting intake and output information on appropriate forms and in the electronic medical record.
ü Provides patient comfort by utilizing resources and materials; transporting patients; answering patients' call lights and requests; reporting observations of the patient to nursing supervisor.
ü Documents actions by completing forms, reports, and records.
ü Maintains work operations by following policies and procedures.
ü Protects organization's value by keeping patient information confidential.
ü Serves and protects the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards
ü One-to-one observation to include virtual observation
ü Performing capillary blood glucose and monitoring
QUALIFICATIONS:
ü A valid current, unrestricted Nursing Assistant Certification
ü Must be a US Citizen
ü Experience in nursing area must have occurred within the last 18 months.
ü Must not have been convicted of, pled guilty to, pled nolo contender to, or received probation before judgement for any crime other than a minor traffic violation, the record of which has not been expunged.
ü Must not have had any professional licensure or certification withheld, suspended, revoked, or denied, and the candidate must not have surrendered or allowed a professional license or certification to have expired or lapsed because of an investigation or disciplinary action
ü Negative TB
ü Must be able to obtain a minimum-security investigation
ü Able to favorably pass a preliminary background check
ü Able to gain required access to facilities, information systems, and/or information subject to the security procedures set forth
ü Pre-employment drug screen and fingerprinting
ü Required credentialing through VetPro
KNOWLDEGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
ü This contract requires the services of Certified Nursing Assistants in various areas of the Medical Center.
ü Work independently with minimal supervision
ü Excellent verbal and written communication skills
ü Experience in maintaining sensitive personal identification information (SPII) standards and confidentiality in handling protected health information.
ü CNA (Med/Surg or Geriatrics & Extended Care): Current AHA BLS Certification, 1 yr recent experience.
ü Personnel attend the following training classes provided by SLVHCS prior to reporting for duty
o Nursing Service Basic Orientation (est. 8 hrs.)
o In-service/validation of competency for specific work area (est. 8 hrs.)
o CPRS (Computerized Patient Record System) (est. 4-8 hrs.)
o BCMA (Bar Code Medication Administration) (est. 4 hrs.) or Vital Monitoring
o All mandatory VA Training Topics
Physical Demands:
Position requires frequent standing or walking. Ability to access files, supplies and equipment. May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another.
Work Environment:
Work environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, chemicals etc. Subject to frequent interruptions.
