Who We Are

Cogent Biosciences is a publicly traded biotechnology company developing real solutions to treat genetically driven diseases. With a focus on rational drug discovery and development, we are leveraging validated biology to advance precision therapies designed to address the true underlying drivers of disease and provide real hope for patients.

Cogent’s lead therapeutic candidate, bezuclastinib (CGT9486), is a precision kinase inhibitor designed to selectively and potently inhibit the KIT D816V mutation, which is responsible for driving a rare and serious condition called Systemic Mastocytosis (SM). We are also studying CGT9486 to treat advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), which have a strong dependence on oncogenic KIT signaling.

The Medical Science Liaison role is focused on our lead clinical development program, bezuclastinib. The primary specialties for outreach and engagement include oncology (solid tumors / sarcoma; Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor, GIST), hematology / oncology, and allergy and immunology in the assigned territory.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the assigned territory as a scientific and medical expert in the areas of GIST and Systemic Mastocytosis.
  • Support the strategic priorities established in collaboration with the cross-functional Medical Affairs and Patient Advocacy team.
  • Develop and implement a territory strategy and engage in compliant, accurate, and data-driven scientific exchange about our clinical development programs.
  • Lead external communication with thought leaders and other HCPs to obtain insights about current practice and emerging clinical data.
  • Cultivate a network of experts for Cogent Biosciences' disease areas of focus.
  • Assist with the facilitation of investigator-initiated research concepts.
  • Remain current on training and adhere to corporate and healthcare compliance.
  • Establish and implement an educational outreach strategy to reach relevant HCPs.
  • Collaborate with the broader Medical Affairs and Patient Advocacy team to support relevant international and national scientific congresses.
  • Keep a pulse on the medical community and report key insights from the competitive market landscape.
  • Assist and lead the scientific onboarding and training of new team members.
  • Foster Cogent’s positive, innovative, and collaborative culture.
  • Be prepared to travel primarily within the assigned territory (typically up to 80%).

Qualifications

  • Advanced medical / science degree required (Master’s and / or Doctorate).
  • Medical professional credentials preferred (MD, DO, PhD, DNP, PharmD, other).
  • 7 years of experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry in Medical Affairs.
  • 3 years of either rare disease or oncology experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record in executing compliant collaborations with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret scientific and clinical research.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and positive, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Adept and comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Previous launch experience strongly preferred.
