Spyre Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company that aims to create next-generation inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) products by combining best-in-class antibody engineering, rational therapeutic combinations, and precision medicine approaches. Spyre's pipeline includes investigational extended half-life antibodies targeting α4β7, TL1A, and IL-23.

Role Summary

The Vice President of Medical Affairs at Spyre Therapeutics will lead our medical affairs team and oversee all medical-related activities within the organization. This role is crucial in ensuring the alignment of medical strategies with Spyre Therapeutics’ overall goals, fostering innovation, and maintaining the highest standards of clinical excellence to drive the successful development and commercialization of our products. The VP of Medical Affairs will possess a deep understanding of IBD, strong leadership skills and a track record of successful collaborations with cross-functional teams. This individual will report to the Chief Medical Officer and be based remotely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership : Develop and implement medical strategies that align with Spyre Therapeutics’ objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Clinical Development : Oversee clinical trials and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Responsible for partnering with Clinical Operations and Clinical Development in site engagement strategy and execution. Provide medical expertise in the design and execution of clinical studies. Monitor and analyze emerging trends in the IBD markets to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Regulatory Affairs : Collaborate with regulatory bodies to ensure all products meet necessary regulatory, medical and safety requirements and industry standards.
  • Medical Communication : Lead the development of medical content for internal and external stakeholders, including scientific publications, presentations, conferences, and educational materials. Responsible for leading scientific congress presence including planning and staffing a company R&D booth, coordinating meetings with key opinion leaders, study investigators, and researchers. Be responsible for the publication strategy and execution. Identify knowledge gaps and develop research questions for additional analyses.
  • Team Management : Build and manage a high-performing medical affairs team. This will include building and leading a Medical Science Liaison team. Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement : Establish and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders, healthcare professionals, and industry partners.
  • Product Support : Provide medical support for product launches and post-market activities. Address medical inquiries and adverse event reports.
  • Compliance : Ensure all medical activities comply with ethical standards and regulatory guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Ideal Candidate

  • Education and experience : PhD, PharmD or Medical Degree with a minimum of 12 years of experience in medical affairs, clinical development, or related fields within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. IBD, Inflammation and / or Immunology experience is strongly preferred.
  • Leadership : Proven track record of leading and managing medical teams. Strong strategic thinking and decision-making skills. Ability to lead cross functional study teams in a growing and dynamic organization.
  • Communication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present complex medical information to diverse audiences.
  • Regulatory Knowledge : In-depth understanding of regulatory requirements and guidelines (e.g., FDA, EMA).
  • Interpersonal Skills : Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Ability to lead and motivate teams and collaborate effectively across functions.

  • The expected salary range offer for this role is $330,000 to $380,000. Actual pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, experience, education, and geographic location.
