RN ER (Emergency Room)

*Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS (3 hrs Stroke). Must have 8 hrs of Stroke education. Prefer TNCC.*
- Trauma Level: Trauma Level II. Stroke and STEMI Certified.
- # Beds: 65 Bays- divided into different zones (A, B, C, D, & E), and staff be rotated through each zone.
Designated Code/Trauma area.
- Do you have a Fast Track: 10 Chairs. Staffing: 2 Attendings, 1 RN.
- Do you have a separate Triage area?: Separate area close to the waiting room, 3-4 Triage RNs. Travelers
are required to triage experience and may be asked to work in this area.
- Do you have a separate holding area in the ER: Can see ER Hold Patients throughout the ER. ER is staffed with
ERG nurses (MS Inpatient RNs) that assist in taking ER hold patients; ER RNs may still be assigned ER Hold
patients when necessary.
- Do you have separate Psych rooms?: No, Psych Patients transferred to Fulton Campus.
- Security in-house 24/7: 24/7 in the ER.
- How many patients do you treat in the ER/day: 118,000 per year = approx. 9850 /month.
- Nurse: Patient Ratios: 1:4-8 depending on acuity of patients, census, and staffing; high ratios are not
uncommon. They do not have set ratios in the ER.
- Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS (3 hrs Stroke). Must have 8 hrs of Stroke education. Prefer TNCC.
- Common Diagnoses: Pt Population Adults and Peds; DM, Asthma, Resp Issues, COVID, Chest Pain, STEMI, CVA,
Stokes, Psych, Trauma, and more.
- Experience: 2 years of ER Experience. Must have triage experience. Prefer: Trauma experience. Will accept first
time travelers if they have similar inner-city (metropolitan) ED experience.
- Common drips: Must be able to titrate all critical drips. Must be able comfortable providing conscious sedation
for bedside procedures and/or pain management.
- ED Physician/Mid-Levels: 1-2 Attendings in each zone, 3-4 RNs in each area, & 1 PCT in each zone; RN may be
asked to do primary care nursing and RNs to work as a team in their zone.
- Charge Nurse: 1 Charge and 1 Manager in the ER 24/7.
- Nurse aids: 1 PCTs in each zone.. Job Duties: phlebotomy, 12 Lead EKGs, vital signs, POCT, patient care, assist RNs, and more.
- Is RT in the ER 24/7?: In house 24/7; RT NOT designed to the ED, but are available by call 24/7.
- RT Equipment: RT will set up Resp. Equip and RN expected to help monitor and maintain it.
- Do you have Monitor Techs in the ER: No Monitor Tech or centralized monitoring, RNs to read and interpret
their own tele, monitors in the room.
- X-Ray or CT in the ER?: Down the hall on the same floor; Transport team available, RNs expected to assist in
transporting unstable patients.
- Does Phlebotomy draw labs or RN's draw: RN to draw upon IV access and PCTs may do redraws with butterfly.
- Shifts & Scheduling: RN Shifts: 7-7:30, 12-12:30. PCT Shifts: 7-3:30, 3-11:30, 11-7:30. Schedule is made out by
management and travelers asked to stay flexible and fill gaps in permanent staffing. Will consider block
scheduling. Huddle starts at 7 and RNs expected to be ready to go at that time, tardiness is not tolerated.
- Weekend Requirements: Typically EOW. May be asked to help cover extra weekends at times.
- Holiday Requirements: May be asked to go into the Holiday Rotation.

- Unit Specific Orientation: 1-2 shifts with a preceptor. Orientation: Tues - Badging, Wed & Th classroom orientation, Fri on the unit with a preceptor (11.5 hrs).

Pay: $70.00 - $71.00 per hour
