Summary:
Primary responsibility is to work within established LifeLink Foundation, OPO, and regulating agency policies and procedures to direct the resources available to facilitate successful management of organ referrals. The Referral Coordinator Manager will be responsible for day-to-day oversight, mentoring, education, and evaluation of the Referral Coordinators. The manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring policies, procedures, strategies, and action plans related to organ referral management. This position will function as a resource and support for all Recovery Services staff and will work in close collaboration with the Recovery Services leadership team.
Responsibilities:
- Guides assigned staff toward accomplishing LifeLink’s mission and goals, including selection, training and development, scheduling and job assignment, mentoring, and counseling, appraisal and recognition, and recommending promotional and disciplinary coaching.
- Directs work planning, approves call schedules, vacation requests, expense reports, etc., to ensure adequate staff and adherence to policies and procedures.
- Participates in hiring through screening resumes and conducting interviews.
- Manages process of mid-year and annual evaluations of assigned staff, providing one-on-one evaluations and goal planning with the goal of strengthening and increasing personal and professional competencies.
- Participates in the Referral Coordinator schedule as needed.
- Collaborate with Recovery Services management team in coordinating appropriate resources for the successful evaluation and management of organ referrals including notification of on call team members of potential donor referrals.
- Determine potential donor suitability while documenting donor demographics, registry status, and providing education to hospital staff regarding donation process and outline of plan.
- Builds and maintains positive and supportive relationships between LifeLink and Medical Examiners/Coroners.
- Create a positive learning environment for coworkers and exhibit strong leadership skills. Model effective communication with coworkers, physicians, and hospital staff.
- Possess knowledge of medical and legal principles of organ allocation, serving as a resource and mentor to coordinators.
- Demonstrate working knowledge and competence with LifeLink and OPTN policies and procedures. Adhere to the standards of practice for quality assurance procedures established within the Foundation.
- Collaborate with the Recovery Services management team in the development, implementation, and training of policies and procedures relating to referral evaluation and allocation.
- Work closely with the Medical Director on-call and the Administrator on-call on all issues pertaining to referral and clinical donor management, including technical aspects of organ allocation and serve as a resource for coordinators on same.
- Participate in weekly conference calls/meetings to review referral management and organ placement efforts of each donor as appropriate. Assume a leadership role in the Quarterly OPO/Physician’s Quality Assurance meetings.
- Actively participate in analysis of data and benchmark activity and lead referral management reviews for quality assurance and enhanced referral response opportunities with the goal of increasing donation opportunities and improved hospital relationships.
- Work on special assignments and projects as directed by the Director, Recovery Services or Executive Directors.
- Responsible for participating in quality assessment performance improvement (QAPI) activities for the OPO.
Requirements:
- RN and or healthcare related field preferred. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Demonstrated strong leadership, problem analysis and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability to motivate peers and achieve cooperation.
- Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate effectively with other staff members and hospital or other external agency personnel.
- Must be able to maintain professionalism and confidentiality of LifeLink business.
- Demonstrated physical ability to lift, carry and/or move approximately 1 to 40 pounds.
Working Conditions:
Generally pleasant in a fully supported team-office environment with periods of high stress and extended hours. On-call rotation responsibilities with 24-hour cell phone accessibility.
