The Central Processing Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the indirect patient care provided by the central processing staff in providing the supplies, instruments, and equipment needed to the Patient Care Units in the facility. The responsibility of reprocessing supplies, instruments, and equipment for use in patient care is within the scope of practice of the Central Processing department. This includes decontamination, inventory, assembling and sterilization hospital wide. A critical attribute required of this position is exceptional interpersonal customer services consisting of an outgoing positive attitude, warm friendly joyful demeanor, and the utmost care and reverence for our guests, patients, families, customers and colleagues.
Essential Functions
- Coordinate all aspects of preparing instruments/equipment and maintaining supply PAR levels to meet patient care needs for LHN.
- Demonstrate appropriate communication skills to provide customer service, internal and external.
- Oversee the development, coordination, and maintenance of inventory to assure optimum instruments/instrument trays are available to patient care units.
- Oversee and maintains records for Central Processing Department to meet standards of practice for sterilization.
- Demonstrate professional accountability.
- Act independently without specific instruction, utilizing time/resources appropriately, under direction of the Director/Charge Nurse.
- Delegate or accept other assignments as needed for safe and efficient operation of the unit.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the population and specific needs of the patients served.
- Implement communication techniques within the department for consistent relay of information.
- Prepare and provide monthly statistical reports to Director.
Qualifications and requirements
- Post high school training and/or specialized education required
- Minimum three (5) years in Central Processing Department or equivalent including extensive knowledge of surgical instruments, supplies, decontamination, and sterilization techniques.
- Previous leadership experience preferred.
- Must have Central Processing Specialty Certification
