Qualifications:
- Must be a current NYS Licensed Registered Nurse; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Minimum five years’ nursing experience with three of those years in the ID/DD field
- Pervious training experience preferred
- Knowledge of OPWDD regulations
- Knowledge of Person Centered standards
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Professional Instructor preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and oversee training, certification and supervision of the AMAP classes (Full Course and Refresher Class) to include proper record keeping and storage of all OMR-811’s for audit purposes
- Conduct on-site, program specific, field based training (i.e., Medical Counselor Training, Epipen, Annual Day Services Nursing In-services, etc.)
- Conduct alternate schedule trainings based on the needs of the department which may include an evening or weekend Full AMAP class on a quarterly basis.
- Conduct annual and as needed BLS certification classes for agency nurses
- Coordinate and ensure required annual nursing in-services in each IRA to include record keeping
- Coordinate and oversee all nursing related trainings to include Tube Feeding Certifications, Medical Counselor Training, Agency Introduction TB, Diabetes, Choking Prevention etc.
- Coordinate and oversee Life’s WORC’S employee tuberculosis screening program for employees
- Develop specialized medical training, including medical guidelines and procedures; ensure all program staff receives adequate medical training, as needed and based upon internal and DQA audit outcomes
- Coordinate all required staff training for all new program development to include individual specific requirements and assist in pourings for new staff for the new programs when needed
- Develops and coordinates training guidelines and curriculums for all newly hired nurses
- Collaborate with Nursing Administrators in the development of medically related training to meet department, agency and regulatory standards
- Participate and follow through on recommendations from committees as assigned (i.e. IRC, HRC, Training Committee)
- Assist with investigation of serious reportable incidents, as delegated (requires the satisfactory completion of Training Program for incident Investigators)
- Oversight of New Directions Day Habilitation medication storage, MAR, and compliance of AMAP status.
