Job Title: Peer Support Specialist/Supportive Housing Caregiver
Job Summary:
The Peer Support Specialist/Supportive Housing Caregiver is responsible for the on-site supervision and oversight of residents with serious mental illness within a supportive permanent housing location. This role involves a 12-hour shift schedule and focuses on ensuring the overall well-being and support of the residents, including monitoring hygiene, monitoring medication compliance, household cleanliness, and providing nutritional guidance and support services. The Caregiver's duties and responsibilities will be overseen by a mental health clinician, and they must be trained as a peer recovery coach in Colorado in accordance with the COPA (Colorado Providers Association) standards or with a goal of working towards certification.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Oversee the daily activities and well-being of residents with serious mental illness within the supportive permanent housing facility.
2. Monitor residents' personal hygiene--including bathing, grooming, and dressing, as needed.
3. Monitor and encourage residents' compliance with prescribed medication regimens, under the guidance and supervision of the mental health clinician.
4. Maintain a clean and organized living environment by overseeing the cleanliness of common areas and residents' personal spaces.
5. Provide guidance and support to residents regarding proper nutrition and healthy eating habits.
6. Offer emotional support to residents, focusing on the reduction of substance use and overall mental health improvement, under the direction of the mental health clinician and drawing on peer recovery coach training that aligns with COPA's competency-based curriculum.
7. Collaborate with the supervising mental health clinician to coordinate and implement resident care plans.
8. Document all relevant observations, interventions, and progress within the residents' records, and share information with the mental health team as required.
9. Participate in regular staff meetings, training sessions, and supervision with the mental health clinician to maintain and enhance professional competencies, including ongoing peer recovery coach training that meets COPA's continuing education requirements.
10. Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines, as well as the COPA Code of Ethics, to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
11. Emphasis on timeliness and reliability
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant training or certification in mental health, social work, or nursing preferred
- Completed or in-progress for peer recovery coach training in the state of Colorado that meets the COPA standards, including the competency-based curriculum and Code of Ethics
- Experience in providing care or support services to individuals with serious mental illness or substance use disorders
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage and support residents
- Ability to work efficiently and maintain composure in a fast-paced and potentially challenging environment
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Willingness to work a 12-hour shift schedule, including weekends and holidays
- Ability to collaborate effectively with the supervising mental health clinician
