JOB SUMMARY: The Forensic Residential Specialist position is integral to the efficient functioning of the assigned Department. The Forensic Residential Specialist will, by virtue of the role, have primary individual contact and, in that role, will have influence on individual safety and well-being of the consumer. As such, the Forensic Residential Specialist is a professional staff member with the responsibility for maintenance of a secure and safe work environment in cooperation with other professional level staff members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES: The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification with or without an accommodation.   • Help with the admission of individuals, including taking urine analysis, blood alcohol content, and contraband search, if necessary, body check, checking for hazardous objects, listing valuables and personal possessions, and orienting the individual to the Department.
  • Observe all individuals closely to ensure coverage in the supervision of consumers as assigned by each department, this will require an array of coverage from occasional oversight to constant oversight.
  • Monitor compliance of medication to ensure compliance is maintained
  • Monitor consumer for undesirable side-effects to medication and inform appropriate professional when necessary
  • Monitor consumer meal and compliance for special needs/prescribed diet
  • Complete necessary progress notes on consumers timely
  • Provide support to consumers with daily living skills as appropriate; assist clinician in the provision of group therapy and everyday living skills training as appropriate
  • Assist consumers and fellow staff during recreational activities with consumers
  • Assists staff and consumers in the implementation of treatment/behavior plans; provides feedback relative to adjustment
  • Report all pertinent observations, changes in physical signs or symptoms, changes in emotional behavior and individual’s medical and/or psychiatric concerns to the appropriate level professional.
  • Observe and report individual’s reactions to visitors or telephone calls to the appropriate level professional.
  • Report feelings and ideas expressed verbally by individuals to the appropriate level professional.
  • Encourage individuals to respect the rules and regulations of the department and comply with Court Orders give physical and emotional support as it is needed.
  • Carry out assigned duties in caring for individuals who require more than routine observation and care.
  • Assist other personnel in the management of impulsive, violent or uncooperative individuals and help apply restraints or put individuals into seclusion, as necessary.
  • Maintain security on the Department per policy.
  • Check any unusual sounds, report suspicious behavior of individuals or visitors and report difficulties with visitors.
  • Never leave the department without authorization by your supervisor.
  • Assists consumers and fellow staff in maintaining a clean and safe department
  • Notifies appropriate staff when supplies are needed and stock supplies when received
  • Participate consistently in all in-service training programs.
  • Ability to successfully complete initial and annual Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (TEAM) physical restraint and verbal de-escalation training.
  • The ability to comply with the regulations requiring a workplace of dignity and respect and equal employment opportunity compliance.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Education:
    • High School diploma or equivalent required
    • CNA preferred omit
  • Experience:

o Minimum of Two (2) years of prior experience in a mental health setting is required

o Minimum of One (1) year supervisory experience required omit

o Minimum of One (1) year of experience working with the chronically mentally ill in an acute psychiatric setting preferred
