LEAD PATIENT ACCOUNT CLERK (Shift 1) - HBO 065
JOB SUMMARY : The Patient Account Clerk will assist the Business Office Manager in supervising the Business Office Staff's day to day activities relative to registering clients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Auditing cases to assure insurance / payor source is current and correct, obtaining and disseminating information regarding policies and procedures.
- This employee collects demographic and admission information, admits clients, verifies all information, obtains proper signatures, collects payments, discharges clients, processes service tickets and non-admit paperwork, makes deposits and performs duties in other areas of the department as needed.
- Verbally verifies information with clients as they are admitted.
- Updates information in the system as needed.
- Interviews all clients or guarantors for complete and accurate information.
- Explains all required forms for admission, obtains signatures, and witnesses the signatures.
- Completes face sheets.
- Copies all insurance cards and does insurance pre-certification.
- Ensures that the needs of the client and / or family members are respected in a courteous and timely manner, in keeping with the hospital's Mission Statement.
- Receives, records and locks up all client's valuables.
- Responsible for all discharge paperwork being completed on all clients at discharge.
- Processes all service tickets that are completed and forwards them on to Administration.
- Maintain inventory of supplies for Business Office and responsible for ordering necessary supplies for the hospital.
- Records and makes all deposits.
- Processes all non-admit paperwork.
- Assists Switchboard Operator.
- Responsible for assisting the Business Office Supervisor in scheduling vacation / absences of employees, covering schedules.
- Coordinates coverage for employee lunches.
- Assist Business Office supervisor in training staff; providing them with necessary tools with which will enable them to perform their duties.
- Provides coverage for other staff members as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Business Office Supervisor.
- The ability to comply with the regulations requiring a workplace of dignity and respect and equal employment opportunity compliance.
- The ability to work collaboratively with others and to accept constructive criticism from supervisors and managers.
