Peer Support Specialist - Assisted Outpatient Treatment
Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT)-AOT helps people achieve and maintain physical and mental health while decreasing mental health crises, hospitalizations, incarceration, and homelessness through voluntary or involuntary Baker Act or court-ordered treatment.
JOB SUMMARY: The Peer Support Specialist has responsibility to carry out recovery, rehabilitation and support functions that assist in treatment of the consumer. The Specialist could be a member of any of several multidisciplinary team’s, depending on need. These services could be provided in an outpatient setting or in consumer home setting depending on assignment.

- Provides job readiness training, provides education, support, and consultation to families
- Provide Peer support services in the home, attend weekly court staffing, and have a solid understanding of child welfare system, addiction’s, or co-occurring disorders
- Assist consumers with goal setting and achievement;
- Assists in facilitation of consumer connection with community supports and agencies
- Must have been a recipient of mental health services
- Must have a strong commitment to the right and ability of each person with a severe and persistent mental illness to live in normal community residences; work in market job; and have access to helpful, adequate competent, and continuous supports and services
- Skills and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses and respect for client rights and persons preferences in treatment are essential
- The ability to comply with the regulations requiring a workplace of dignity and respect and equal employment opportunity compliance.
- The ability to work collaboratively with others and to accept constructive criticism from supervisors and managers.
- Willingness to abide by the company’s published rules and regulations
- The ability to work as part of a team or independently
- Be a member of the team for an assigned number of consumers
- Consult with community agencies and families to maintain coordination in the treatment process
- Document progress to maintain a permanent record of client activity according to establish methods and procedures
- Participate in daily staff organizational meetings and treatment planning review meetings
- Participate in providing treatment and substance use services
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Education: High school degree/GED required
- Experience: Minimum of One (1) year experience with adults who have severe and persistent mental illnesses required
