SUMMARY: Provides supervision and employment related training, including but not limited to job skills, transportation, proper work habits, socialization skills, proper dress, and work safety, and to support people receiving services in a wide range of community employment settings.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  1. Acts as a liaison between the Agency and staff/management from the community business/volunteer site. Assesses work opportunities and job tasks to assure appropriate for the people we support. Reports findings or issues to Employment Specialist and/or Coordinator

  1. Trains and supervises the people we support in community employment/volunteer settings. Completes on-site job analysis and develops job instructions and specifications to meet job site expectations. Develops plan for job site accommodations if needed.

  1. If at a paid Community Employment site, completes productivity evaluation to ensure compliance with the DOL (Department of Labor) regulations. Maintains timely data collection records to compute individual's productivity and earnings.

  1. Assists with setting up new contracts, job sites, curriculum, vocational assessments, or vocational training sites to include materials, equipment, procedures, and potential people ready to transition.

  1. Assists in developing appropriate job behaviors, work habits, and appropriate relationships with employers, supervisors, and co-workers. Assists in following job site policies and procedures. Advocates for the people we support with contacts at employment settings.

  1. Maintains a record of data as needed to measure progress on program plan objectives, as well as daily attendance when applicable. Observes and documents performance and behaviors in all employment related skill areas to facilitate assessment and development of employment related goals to prepare for transitional opportunities. Completes daily, weekly and/or monthly reports in a timely manner and submits them to the designated staff.

  1. Performs job tasks, if necessary, to complete job expectations and/or meet the terms of each contract or work site during training period. Maintains a safe and orderly work area.

  1. Maintains records in an orderly manner and in compliance with all Agency and state regulations including ACCES-VR, OPWDD, DOL, NYSID, NISH and Medicaid Regulations.

  1. Develops and implements Community Prevocational Staff Action Plan in accordance with the Life Plan and personal outcome measures at semi-annual and annual review. Makes recommendations regarding transition and employment opportunities. Attends a minimum of two case reviews per year for each person supported. Additional team meetings will be scheduled on an as needed basis. Facilitates reviews in a professional manner.

  1. Serves as positive role model for the people we support. Interacts with others in a way that will assist in developing behaviors, skills, and attitudes necessary for successful community employment. Maintains neat appearance, hygiene, and grooming. Promotes positive behaviors and interactions with all individuals.

  1. Participates in staff meetings and in-service trainings as requested.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Any combination of education and experience, which demonstrates the abilities and knowledge for successful performance, will be considered.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associates Degree and one year of related experience; or High school diploma or equivalent and three years of related (pre)vocational and/or human services experience. May be required to meet LAI's Vehicle Operator Requirements.


COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, policies, procedures, treatment plans and other routine instructions. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals, groups of individuals, their families, other staff, other service providers, and the general public. Must be able to effectively communicate with and observe individuals, staff, and other individuals involved in the support and care of those we serve.


REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of options in situations where only limited instructions exist. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.


While performing the duties of this job, to instruct, care for, and assist individuals, the employee is frequently required to: stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects or equipment; reach with hands and arms; and talk and see. The employee is also occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
