IMMIGRATION LEGAL SERVICES SUPERVISING ATTORNEY (CONTRACT)
The Department of Immigrant Services at LifeWorks Community Action has supported immigrants and their families in Saratoga, Washington, and Warren Counties for over 20 years. Our mission is to promote healthy, thriving families through strong connections to the community.
We are seeking Supervising Immigration Attorney to join our team. The Immigration Attorney will supervise our immigrant legal services team composed of legal services navigators, DOJ accredited staff, and consulting attorney. This role offers a unique chance to combine legal practice with leadership, advocacy, and a direct impact on the community.
Major Responsibilities:
- Supervise and mentor legal navigators, DOJ-accredited representatives and consulting attorney, ensuring they receive the support and development they need to succeed.
- Assist with immigration interviews, court hearings, and other appointments in collaboration with DOJ-accredited representatives.
- Manage a diverse caseload, ensuring timely case handling, accurate record-keeping, and compliance with deadlines.
- Support and counsel DOJ accredited staff who are assisting clients applying for Temporary Protected Status, asylum, adjustment of status, parole, and work authorization.
- Stay current with relevant laws and policies by attending trainings, conferences, and reviewing new laws, regulations, and court rules.
Minor Duties:
- Collaborate with the Director of Immigrant Services to expand legal services capacity, including recruitment, interviewing, and training new legal staff.
- Assist with grant applications and reporting in partnership with the Director of Immigrant Services.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school, be a member in good standing of the bar at the highest court of any state in the country or U.S. territory.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in immigration law or a related field, including direct client services and staff supervision.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of U.S. immigration law, including family-based immigration, deportation defense, humanitarian relief, and naturalization.
- Languages: Fluency in both Spanish and English preferred, but not required. Fluency in additional languages is a plus.
- Leadership and Mentoring: Proven leadership skills, with a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive team environment.
- Commitment to Social Justice: A deep commitment to social justice, immigrant rights, and advocacy for vulnerable populations.
- Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing organizational needs and circumstances.
- Background Check: A clear criminal record check is required.
Schedule: 3-5 hours weekly, with the capacity of meeting 1 hour during normal business hours of 8:00 am - 4:30 pm for team briefings.
Work Location: Remote
Compensation: $100-$150 per hour, depending on experience.
