Light of Chance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth and communities through the arts and wellness. Our community youth arts program provides students in grades 5-12, as well as adults, with opportunities to explore and develop their talents in music, dance, visual arts, and creative expression in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Music Instructor to lead engaging and educational music sessions for youth (grades 5-12) and adults. The ideal candidate will have experience working with diverse populations, a strong background in music instruction (instrumental and/or vocal), and the ability to inspire creativity and confidence in participants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and lead music instruction sessions, including vocal, instrumental, and/or music production lessons.
- Develop age-appropriate curriculum and activities that foster creativity, skill development, and appreciation for music.
- Work with students of varying skill levels, from beginners to advanced musicians.
- Encourage self-expression and confidence through music while maintaining a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Collaborate with program staff to integrate music with other artistic disciplines in performances, showcases, and community events.
- Support and mentor students in their artistic growth, goal setting, and potential career pathways in music.
- Maintain attendance records, progress reports, and provide feedback to participants and parents/guardians when applicable.
- Assist in program outreach and engagement efforts to recruit and retain participants.
- Ensure a safe and respectful environment for all participants.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience teaching music to youth and/or adults in a group or individual setting.
- Proficiency in at least one musical instrument and/or vocal instruction; music production experience is a plus.
- Ability to develop lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Strong communication and classroom management skills.
- Passion for arts education and community engagement.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and contribute to a creative learning environment.
- Experience working with diverse populations, including underrepresented communities, is preferred..
