Job Title: Service Provider: Reading Tutor
Location: In Person at Student's Home
Position Type: Full-Time/Part-Time
Job Summary:
The Tutor will provide non-classroom academic instruction to individuals and or small groups to prepare, advance, or remediate students in specific academic areas. The ideal candidate will support students by offering personalized assistance and clarifying concepts. This role requires excellent communication skills, a strong educational background, success navigating online resources, and the ability to engage with students remotely.
Key Responsibilities:
- Consults with students, teachers, parents, IEP team members, and school administration to identify academic needs and to develop individualized tutoring plans for students.
- Reviews class assignments, content, or standards; discusses content with students; and re-teaches when needed.
- Assists students with homework; creates extra practice or training materials and aids as needed.
- Teaches and mentors students, continually guiding them toward comprehension of the assigned subjects or lessons.
- Teaches and models studying, note-taking, and test-taking skills and strategies with students.
- Researches and recommends supplemental textbooks, computer games or apps, equipment, or other learning materials to further enrich students academic success.
- Assesses students progress and achievement throughout tutoring sessions.
- Provides a learning-conducive tutoring environment to ensure that students are encouraged to be productive, focused, and engaged in learning.
- Maintains detailed records that include assessment results, progress, school performance, and feedback; provides ongoing communication and feedback on the students progress to all appropriate parties.
- Maintains confidentiality of all records and conversations regarding students academic accomplishments and struggles.
- Maintains current knowledge of developments, techniques, and best practices in tutoring through active participation in training and development sessions or workshops.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, and educators.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Thorough understanding of multiple, effective methods of instruction.
- Thorough understanding and knowledge or the ability to research and demonstrate subjects and skills being taught.
- Ability to encourage, positively reinforce, and provide constructive feedback to students to build confidence.
- Proficiency with online teaching platforms and tools (e.g., Zoom, Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams) or ability to learn various online platforms.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education and active PA Instructional Certification.
- Active Reading Specialist Certification
- FBI, Child Abuse and PA Criminal Record clearance results from within the past year or the ability to obtain during hiring process.
- Previous experience in tutoring, especially in a remote setting is preferred.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $20.00 - $35.00 per hour
