Senior Azure Engineer

LightFeather is seeking a Senior Azure Engineer to design, implement, and manage secure, scalable cloud solutions in federal IT environments. This role requires deep expertise in Azure architecture, automation, DevOps methodologies, and security compliance. The ideal candidate will have experience in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, and Agile methodologies while ensuring compliance with federal security frameworks such as NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, and FISMA.

This is a Full Time, Hybrid Position. Must be local to the DC Metro area.

Responsibilities:

Azure Cloud Architecture & Engineering:

• Design, deploy, and manage scalable and secure Azure cloud solutions, ensuring high availability and fault tolerance
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, ARM Templates, and Bicep to automate deployments
• Optimize Azure networking, including Virtual Networks (VNet), NSGs, Firewalls, ExpressRoute, and VPN Gateway
• Configure and manage Azure security controls, including RBAC, Azure AD, Key Vault, Defender for Cloud, and Sentinel
• Implement and manage hybrid cloud solutions that integrate with on-premises infrastructure
  
  

DevOps, CI/CD, and Automation:

• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins
• Automate deployments, monitoring, and configuration management using PowerShell, Python, or Bash scripting
• Implement containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes (AKS)
• Ensure best practices for cloud cost optimization, monitoring, and governance using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Cost Management
  
  

Security, Compliance, and Governance:

• Ensure compliance with federal security standards (NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, FISMA, DISA STIGs)
• Conduct security assessments and implement Azure Policy, Security Center, and Defender for Cloud
• Implement Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) principles in Azure environments
• Manage identity and access management (IAM), including Azure AD, MFA, PIM, and Conditional Access Policies
  
  

Agile Leadership & Collaboration:

• Serve as Scrum Master, leading Agile/Scrum ceremonies and driving DevSecOps best practices
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, security engineers, and system administrators
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on Azure best practices and cloud security
  
  

Required Qualifications and Skills:

• US Citizenship
• Must possess or be able to obtain a Secret/Top Secret clearance
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or equivalent
• 5 years of hands-on experience in Azure cloud engineering, DevOps, and security
• Strong expertise in Azure networking, security, and governance
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, ARM, and Bicep
• Experience with CI/CD pipeline development using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins
• Strong scripting and automation skills with PowerShell, Python, or Bash
• Familiarity with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Docker, and containerized deployments
  
  

Preferred:

• Experience in federal IT environments or other highly regulated industries
• Knowledge of hybrid cloud architectures integrating Azure with on-premises environments
• Strong background in cloud security best practices and governance
• Familiarity with Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) and Identity and Access Management (IAM) strategies
