POSITION TITLE: Awake Overnight Staff
REPORTS TO: Kevin Hollinger, S.O.A.R. Program Director
POSITION SUMMARY:
Remain awake during overnight hours to ensure the safety, security, and general well-being of participants and staff members residing in the on-campus housing at Webster University during the S.O.A.R. program. This position requires providing visual supervision, maintaining physical stamina to walk the facilities, including navigating stairs, and the ability to accurately document observations, record important information, and administer prescription and non-prescription medications.

TIMEFRAME & HOURS:
- Part-time, seasonal position
- In-Person/Virtual Staff Training - Saturday, April 26 (8:30am-2pm)

- Accommodations provided for eligible staff Thursday, June 5 through Sunday, June 29, 2025
- Friday, June 6 (8am-4pm): Report Date, Set-Up and Training
- Saturday, June 7 (8am-4pm): Training and Collaboration
- Sunday, June 8: (8am-12pm and 10pm-8am (Mon)): Collaboration, Participant Arrival, First Overnight Shift
- Monday-Sunday (June 9-28): 10:00pm-8:00am
- Any additional hours as assigned by the Director.
- Mandatory Post-S.O.A.R. In-Person/Virtual Wrap-Up Meeting September 2025 (5:30pm-8:00pm). Date and meeting type to be determined.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere to Reimbursement Schedule if applicable based on written agreement from the Director at the time of hiring or subsequent written agreement and confirmation.
- Attend all pre-and post-S.O.A.R. meetings, individual trainings and/or group trainings as assigned.
- Promote the safety and well-being of all participants and volunteers through visual supervision including observation and documentation for medication distribution.
- Assist in evacuation or emergency situations.
- Enforce and follow all rules/guidelines set forth by Webster University and/or S.O.A.R. Director.
- Remain awake throughout overnight hours with hourly documentation of observed activities.
- Advance socialization and participation among SOAR and Sports Camp participants
- Reinforce participants learned and emerging skills for traveling with a long cane and Human Guide
- Provide input and feedback to Director for program development and refinement.
- Assist with material preparation/distribution to include Braille, large print, tactile conversion, copying, binding, and inventory of supplies.
- Attend daily weekday meetings with Program Coordinators and/or the Director, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Report directly to Kevin Hollinger, SOAR Director.
- Candidates with prior or current experience working with children who are visually impaired are highly preferred.
- Preference will be given to candidates with prior employment, internship, or volunteer experience with SOAR or other programs sponsored by Lighthouse for the Blind, St. Louis.
- Prefer graduation from or in pursuit of four-year or graduate degree in Visual Impairment, Special Education, Occupational Therapy or a related profession.
- Equivalent work experience may be considered.
- Must be able to provide visual supervision of participants, staff, and volunteers during emergencies, evacuations, and general observations.
- Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience and proficiency in Unified English Braille (UEB), as well as familiarity with screen readers, magnification software, low vision devices, and other assistive technologies.
Successful completion of the following is required:
- Verification of I-9 employment eligibility, either in person or virtually, with a Lighthouse for the Blind Human Resources representative.
- Completion of the web-based E-Verify process to confirm U.S. employment eligibility.
- Passing a pre-employment drug screening and background check, both provided by LHB Industries.
- Completion of Missouri (or an equivalent) Mandatory Reporter training by April 15, 2025.
- Obtaining First Aid and CPR certification by April 15, 2025.
