Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Labor and Delivery Nurse to join our team at a Level I Trauma Center. This role is crucial in providing exceptional care to expectant mothers during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, a commitment to patient-centered care, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to laboring patients, including monitoring fetal heart rates and maternal vital signs.
- Administer medications and manage pain relief options for patients during labor.
- Assist in the delivery of newborns, ensuring safe and effective procedures are followed.
- Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans.
- Educate patients and their families about the labor process, postpartum recovery, and newborn care.
- Perform basic life support (BLS) as needed and respond promptly to any emergencies.
- Maintain accurate patient records, documenting all assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Support patients with special needs, including those with disabilities or geriatric considerations.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
- Experience in Labor and Delivery nursing preferred; familiarity with OR procedures is a plus.
- Proficient in medication administration and experience administering injections.
- Knowledge of sonography techniques as they relate to obstetric care is beneficial.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide empathetic care to diverse populations, including toddlers and geriatrics.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards of practice.
